Holding Back the Flood in Diablo 4

Holding Back the Flood is a quest in Season 1 of Diablo 4 that tasks you with clearing Chapters 1 and 2 of the Season Journey. These objectives also net you Smaller Favor towards unlocking new tiers in the Diablo 4 battle pass. Each Chapter also offers unique rewards that make it worth the effort. Clear Chapter 1 and Chapter 2 to finish the Holding Back the Flood quest.

Chapter 1 of Diablo 4 Season Journey

Complete 7 of the following 9 objectives to obtain the Chapter Rewards. Each Objective grants Smaller Favor towards the Diablo 4 battle pass. Here are the Chapter 1 objectives:

  • The Hangsman’s Garden – Collect 15 ‍Gallowvine (hidden in clusters of berry bushes).
  • Heart of Corruption – Find 1 Malignant Heart. Complete the campaign or skip the campaign in Diablo 4 to gain the ability to find them.
  • Den of Evil – Complete any Dungeon. Use your Codex of Power to pick Dungeons.
  • Trouble in the Wilds – Complete a World Event. Check them on your map.
  • Into the Frozen Dark – Complete 3 Dungeons in Fractured Peaks.
  • What Lurks Below – Complete a Cellar. Check them on your Diablo 4 map.
  • Kind Stranger – Complete 5 Priority or Side Quests. Look out for blue exclamation markers on the map.
  • Keeper of the Keys – Buy a ‍Whispering Key from the Purveyor of Curiosities. You’ll find them in major cities like Kyovashad.
  • Waste Not – Salvage 10 items at the Blacksmith. You’ll find them in most cities.

Chapter 2 of Diablo 4 Season Journey

Complete 9 of the following 11 objectives to obtain the Chapter Rewards. Each Objective grants Smaller Favor towards the Diablo 4 battle pass. Here are the Chapter 2 objectives:

  • Undertaker – Complete 10 Cellars. Find them on the map.
  • Stopping the Spread – Find 3 Malignant Hearts.
  • Ruins Reclaimed – Conquer a Stronghold. Find them marked on the map’s five regions: Scosglen, Fractured Peaks, Hawezar, Kehjistan, and Dry Steppes.
  • Gemcutter – Craft a Chipped Gem at the Jeweler. You’ll find them in most cities.
  • A Torch in the Depths – Complete 5 Malignant Tunnels. You’ll find them scattered across the game’s regions with a unique leaf logo.
  • Baptized in Blood – Reach level 25.
  • Vivisector – Collect 15 Demon Hearts (Kill Demons or do Cellars).
  • A Warrior of Taste – Change your gear’s appearance in the Wardrobe.
  • Lightning the Way – Interact with 10 Waypoints.
  • Spit and Polish – Upgrade 2 items to 1 star at the Blacksmith or Jeweler.
  • Finer Clarity – Upgrade your potion to Minor at the Alchemist.
