These aren’t the only crafting materials you’ll need while traveling around Sanctuary. You’ll want to be picking up things like Crushed Beast Bones and Lifesbane while you’re out and about. However, Forgotten Souls are a bit different. How do you get them? We’re here to let you know.
How to farm Forgotten Souls in Diablo 4
Forgotten Souls can only be found during Helltides in the endgame of Diablo 4. They can be found in a few spots during the Helltide event, including:
- Mined from Screaming Hell Veins
- Dropped by Helltide Harbingers
- Rewards in Tortured Gifts
The best way to farm them is to find Screaming Hell Veins. These look similar to regular ore veins but instead contain Forgotten Souls. These can be found all over the Helltide area, and all you need to do is interact with them to pick up a handful of this material. This is the easiest way to get them, and I find the most Forgotten Souls just by running around and mining them from the veins.
You can also pick them up from drops by Helltide Harbingers, the elite enemies that can be found only in Helltide events. These enemies are tougher than normal, but drop a fair amount of Forgotten Souls for your trouble.
Finally, you can also get them by opening Tortured Gifts, the chests that are found in Helltide areas. Make sure to stock up on Aberrant Cinders to open them, and you’ll be rewarded with a shower of gifts. Luckily, Forgotten Souls can be found in any Tortured Gifts, including the Mystery Chests.
Remember that Helltides are only available on World Tier Nightmare and Torment, so don’t bother looking for these in the lower tiers. However, you won’t have much use for Forgotten Souls during the main storyline anyway, so it’s best not to worry about them yet.
How to use Forgotten Souls in Diablo 4
Once you’ve got your Forgotten Souls stocked up, head to the Blacksmith in any town and you can use these to upgrade and reroll Sacred and Ancestral items. Be sure to use them wisely by checking the prospective stats before you upgrade. Forgotten Souls are really rare, and you don’t want to waste them on gear that’s not worth it.
Diablo 4 Blacksmith who can upgrade gear using Forgotten Souls. After the Season 2 patch, you no longer need Forgotten Souls to upgrade Legendary weapons and armor. However, this rare crafting material is still necessary for the best items in the game. We can’t recommend stocking up on these enough.
That’s all you need to know about Forgotten Souls and where to find them in Diablo 4. Be sure to check out our Nightmare Dungeons tier list so you can know the best spots to farm for Sacred and Ancestral gear.
