With four unique classes to choose from, dark caves to explore, and more, this game is tons of fun. But, nobody likes losing all the progress they’ve made. If you’re new to the game, or just need a refresher, here’s how you can save your progress in Deep Rock Galactic
How to save your progress in Deep Rock Galactic
You can save your progress while you’re on board the Rig. Here’s what you need to do:
- Click on ESC to open the menu
- Go to Options
- Click on Save Menu
- Enter a name for the save file
- Hit Save Current
This will save your progress. Take note that when you do this, it will bring up a loading screen while the game data is saved. You’ll quickly load back into the same spot you were at, though. You’ve now successfully saved your game.
Once you go back into the Save Menu, you’ll now be able to see your recent save and load it up. You can go back to this save at any point in the game.
The game, however, will autosave whenever you complete a mission. It will do so whenever you get back on the ship after a mission. Luckily, even if you forget to manually save your progress, the game will already do it for you.

I highly recommend saving after completing each mission. While the game should autosave, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Nobody wants to lose progress they worked hard for!
Can you save during missions in Deep Rock Galactic?
No, in order to manually save you must be on the Rig in between missions. Saving during the missions is not possible. While this can make the game harder if you’re doing solo play, typically missions aren’t going to last too long. Saving your progress isn’t necessary during short dives.
This is a feature that is likely never going to be added to the game. A majority of players agree that you don’t need to save during missions because they don’t take that long. It’s even quicker when you go in with a team, which is what the game encourages.
