Wondering how to connect power lines in Cities Skylines 2? With electricity being one of the core components of a city, Colossal Order has made some meaningful improvements to how power lines work in the game.

Our Cities Skylines 2 review details all the improvements and visual upgrades it brings over its predecessor. Read up on Cities Skylines 2 stuttering if you face any performance issues at release time.

How to connect power lines in Cities Skylines 2?

Once you have electricity sources, connect them to the grid via the power lines in the electricity menu in Cities Skylines 2. Note that in the sequel, roads automatically have power lines underneath them so you can connect to them instead.

Electricity bottlenecks can arise which can be resolved with more electricity connections. These connections can be done overland or underground by adjusting the ‘Elevation’ parameter. This can be checked via the electricity info view which opens as you select the electricity construction menu.

You’ll also need to account for low voltage and high voltage. Electricity from large power plants needs to be transferred via power lines to Transformer Stations to convert them into low voltage. This is done because buildings in your city rely on low voltage electricity. You can also use an Emergency Battery Station to store up excess electricity for months when you expect blackouts. It’s a good pick for cities that rely on solar or wind power.

Initially, you can pick between wind turbines and a coal power plant. Later on, you’ll get to unlock options like a Geothermal Power Plant or a Solar Power Plant as you level up and achieve milestones. Note that you can connect to Outside Connections to import or export electricity based on your supply and demand.

That covers how to connect power lines. Read up on the Cities Skylines 2 natural disasters to prepare for them in advance. The game drops this October on PC. As for Cities Skylines 2 on Xbox and PS5, expect a 2024 release.
