Want to build Cities Skylines 2 districts? Just like the previous game, districts let you enact specific policies for residents in Cities Skylines.

Check out our Cities Skylines 2 review for our thoughts on Colossal Order’s latest city builder. And keep an eye on the Cities Skylines 2 system requirements before purchasing the game.

How to make a district in Cities Skylines 2

Select the transparent square icon next to the zoning icon, select the district option, and then outline an area to make a district in Cities Skylines 2. You can give it a new name, see its important stats, and implement policies. Here’s how to implement policies in Cities Skylines 2.

District policies let you manage your city better. You can enforce different district ordinances across districts, letting them fulfill specific roles in your settlement. This makes management easy while raising the happiness of your citizens. Note that there are city-wide policies that can be implemented in addition to these district-specific ones.

This bird’s eye view lets you know what city services are provided to each district. You also get a view of the average wealth, the number of households, and its inhabitants. While you can randomly assign these districts, using specific themes like the density of housing or the types of buildings can help with city management. For instance, one district could have more commercial stores while another focuses on office buildings. This lets you determine the lifestyle and growth trajectory of your civilians.

That covers districts in Cities Skylines 2. It’s unfortunate that the new title abandons the old district painter and sticks to grid-based layouts for your districts. Some of the district policies are missing too so we hope the developer will add them later via a patch. Implementing the right policies can help you get out of debt in Cities Skylines 2. Take these features for a spin now that the game is out on PC. As for Cities Skylines 2 on Xbox and PS5, you’ll have to wait for a 2024 launch.
