In order to access the Abandoned Old Workshop, you must first defeat the Blood-Starved Beast in Old Yharnam and then speak to Gehrman back in Hunter’s Dream. This will then open up the right-hand door from the Cathedral Ward lamp, which leads to a great tower, the Healing Church Workshop. Head through the newly-opened door and up the ladder. Ahead of you is an old wheelchair-bound villager with a chaingun – if you sprint straight past him he won’t be able to shoot you. Kill him quickly, loot the chest and head over the footbridge. You must sprint over the footbridge as there are rifleman above you.
Do not head through the door ahead, instead, kill the guard in front of you and turn right. Drop down the crumbled floor and follow the path round. Enter the doorway to see a load of wooden bridges.
Now begins the tricky bit. You must maneouvre your way down a series of bridges in order to get to the double doors immediately down-left of where you entered. A straight drop will kill you, so you must find the safest route down. Make sure you have plenty of Blood Vials, as you may need them to safely descend. This will likely take a few attempts, so prepare to be patient. It also helps to have a strong character with good health before attempting this descent.
The safest route down is this: from the first bridge, walk forward a few paces then face the doorway you entered from. To your right are three ropes leading down to a tiny wooden ledge. You must walk back towards the exit, then roll at a 45-degree angle towards this ledge. You’ll make the ledge and lose a lot of health in the process, but use a Blood Vial once you land and then it’s a short drop to the door leading to the Workshop.
Open the doors and proceed through, there’s a lamp in the Workshop so don’t worry about having to make this run again. You’ll unlock the “Source of the Dream” trophy, as well as find One Third of the Umbilical Cord in this area, which looks eerily similar to Hunter’s Dream, even including an abandoned doll.
You can head back out from the Abandoned Old Workshop, continue your descent and face a wolf, opening the doorway leading to the backstreets of Yharnam and a secret entrance back to Cathedral Ward. You’ll also find the ‘Sweaty Clothes’ and ‘Rumpled Yharnam Hat’ hidden here.
