With beasts to tame, spells to master and a broom to ride, Hogwarts Legacy crams a ton of commands on to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X /S game pads. But what are the best controller settings for Legacy? Do you need to change anything, or are the default control settings good enough?

Here’s what you need to know – from button layout to other gameplay options. This can all be accessed via the ‘Settings’ menu in the game and our guide is applicable to the PS5 and Xbox Series X / S version of Hogwarts Legacy.

Best controller settings for Hogwarts Legacy
The team here has spent many hours with Hogwarts Legacy on PS5 and the general consensus is that the default button layout is perfectly fine and would be the same for the Xbox version also.
In other words, we do not recommend playing around with the button mapping as these have been optimized for the game.
However, there are a few other options – which are found in ‘Gameplay Options’ – that could be worth tweaking. These range from typical camera speed and sensitivity to inverted flight controls and camera-relative targeting.
From these areas, we recommend focusing on the following – this would be applicable for both the Xbox and PS5 versions of the game:
- Aiming sensitivity: Default 1
- Camera sensitivity: Default 1
- Camera-relative targeting: Default 1
- Follow camera speed: Default 1
The above settings work well but some may find that the camera is not sensitive enough.
Elsewhere, aiming sensitivity at the default setting is not as responsive as it could be, while follow camera speed (how quickly the camera snaps back to the direction of the character’s movement) is also a little on the slow side.
With that in mind, we would recommend adjusting the default settings to the following:
- Camera sensitivity: 1.39
- Aiming sensitivity: 1.17
- Camera-relative targeting: Default 1
- Follow camera speed: 1.21
The above settings help the game feel more responsive and also assist with aiming. The improved follow camera speed also helps prevent any awkward camera angles.
Regarding other elements, such as inverted flight controls, these all come down to personal preference, so we encourage trying it out to see what works for you.
