Contents hide What happens if you kill the Guardian in Baldur’s Gate 3? Can you kill the Guardian at all?

Should you kill the Guardian in Baldur’s Gate 3 is a monumental question for the game’s trajectory. When you reach the depths of Rosymorn Monastery in Act One, you will get the choice to enter the Astral Plane via the artifact while inside the Githyanki Creche. Is the best move to kill the Guardian once you’ve met them? We’ll discuss that possibility in this article.

What happens if you kill the Guardian in Baldur’s Gate 3?

As you reach the end of Act One, you will make your way through the mountain pass and find the entrance to Rosymorn Monastery. We suggest having Lae’zel in your party for this part of the game as it deals with the Githyanki and Vlaakith, Queen of the Githyanki. Make your way through the monastery and enter the Creche. Here you’ll have a chance to speak with the Inquisitor and even Vlaakith herself, who will task you with entering the Astral Prism and killing the “person inside”. That person is none other than your Dream Visitor, aka the Guardian.

Upon entering the Astral Prism, enter the Beckoning Cave to have a cutscene where you can finally meet and speak to the Guardian. During this conversation, you can tell the Guardian that you do not trust them. As an adventurer, it is hard to trust someone like the Guardian, especially when you have a Mind Flayer tadpole in your head. If you choose to go against the Guardian’s wishes, they will offer you a sword that you can kill them with. Killing the guardian does absolutely nothing. If you choose to kill them, you will get a short scene where they fall dead but then reappear. This will sour your relationship and hurt you later in the game. Instead, during the future cutscenes, the Guardian will question your loyalty.

✓ Don’t kill for a chance at romance

If you choose to kill the Guardian during the cutscene, it makes it harder to romance them later on in the game. If you are going for the Guardian romance (at least for the achievement), you should avoid killing them in the cutscene.

Can you kill the Guardian at all?

Much later in the game, you will learn the Guardian’s true identity. There are several cornerstone choices that you will have to make after this revelation. One of those paths leads to a chance to kill the Guadian (or Emperor, as it’s revealed to be) during the game’s climax. So if you’re of the opinion that the Guardian has to die – don’t worry, you’ll have your chance.
