To get close to The Golden Teppo Onryo, Naoe is tasked with finding a kosode suitable for a tea ceremony as part of the Dress for Success quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Not any old piece of cloth will do, so off you pop to track down some fresh clothes. It follows on from the Searching for Sakai quest where you tracked down Imai Sokyu.

Like many quests, you’re not given much to go other than that kosode are sold somewhere in the southwestern Sakai. In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to complete the Dress for Success quest in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Acquire a kosode

To acquire Kosode, you’ll need to travel to the southwestern part of the port town of Sakai in the east of Izumi Settsu. It’s worth using scouts to pinpoint the location, which will take you south of the Money Changer District in Sakai.

When you’re in the area, head south along the port with the sea on your right. Eventually, the quest objective will change, pinpointing a specific vendor stationed opposite an elevated shrine overlooking the sea. Check the images above for the exact location.

Talk to the vendor hunched over a bucket of dye. She’ll explain that she’s short on silk to make kosode. A gang of pirates has delayed a shipment so it will take a week to produce one. As these things so often go, it’s up to you to deal with the pirates.

Retrieve the silks

After talking to the merchant, you’ll get a new quest marker pointing to a ship out on the water to the west of Sakai. Either use a boat or swim out to the largest ship that’s the furthest from the shore and board it. It’s guarded by four pirates, including a club-wielding brute. You may want to take a stealthy approach and pick them off by throwing kunai and using the explosive barrels to your advantage. Alternatively, you can fight them head-on.

Either way, make your way to the middle of the hull to find the silks. Loot the chest then head back to the kosode merchant in Sakai. She’ll propose two options: a red Chinese silk kosode or a black Portuguese silk kosode. 

There’s no right or wrong choice here. It comes down to personal preference and won’t affect the outcome of the quest other than a snippet of dialogue. Just note that whichever kosode you choose will turn up in your inventory and Naoe will wear it again for an occasion later on in the story.

After the merchant hands over the kosode, you’ll wrap up the Assassin’s Creed Shadows Dress for Success quest. You’ll get 1000 XP and your chosen kosode for the trouble. If you haven’t already, you’ll now need to complete The Perfect Gift quest to obtain a present for the tea master.
