It turns out they weren’t all that interested, so she’s proposed you give the game a go. It involves finding 10 colourful origami butterflies scattered around Osaka. Per the quest details, we know that they are hidden around Osaka in southwestern Settsu and specifically they are found on trees. But, more precisely, they are located in the town area to the southwest of Osaka Castle.
You’ll know you’re near one when you see a cluster of butterflies flapping in the air. You can also use Naoe’s Observe skill to help find them. In this guide, we’ll walk you through where to find all 10 origami butterflies in the Assassin’s Creed Shadows The Butterfly Collector quest.

You’ll find this one on a tree located on the banks of the river that cuts through Osaka. It’s north of Osaka Kakurega on the eastern side of the river and close to the middle bridge that crosses over the river. This one also comes with a Secret Origami Letter from Richo, suggesting the kidnapping of a child has taken place.

You can find the second butterfly pinned to a tree in the courtyard of a house in the northeast of Osaka town. It’s on the eastern bank of the river that cuts through the area, not far from the town’s edge. Look for the largest tree in the area and you’ll find it easily.

To find this one, follow the river that flows through the town heading south, past the Osaka Kakurega. When you get to the bend in the river, look for a tree on the western bank surrounded by weeds. When you see nothing but dense foliage on the other side of the river, you’ll know you’re in the right place. This time you’ll get the Secret Origami Letter from Shucho, which suggests the kidnappers are using the origami butterflies to communicate.

The fourth butterfly is found in the Fishermen’s District in the south of Osaka. Head for the river bank, more or less perfectly southeast of the Temple of Osaka. The tree is sandwiched between two fish mongers on a small beach.

You’ll find this one just southwest of the Temple of Osaka. Go to the crossroads near the temple full of fruit sellers. You’ll spot a torii gate, behind which is a small shrine and a puppeteer entertaining a gaggle of children. The butterfly is on the tree just behind the shrine just below the letter ‘e’ of the word Temple on the world map.

You can find this butterfly on the northwest edge of the town, on the banks of the westernmost river. It’s just north of the burnt-out portion of the town, opposite the Kojo Ruins. Look for gathered townsfolk mourning the fire then for the largest tree on the edge of the river and you’ll find it. This one contains the Secret Origami Message from Mucho, which implies the child was kidnapped to blackmail a sake merchant to control the Osaka sake trade.

This one is located on a tree in the northeast of the small gardens that surround the Temple of Osaka at the center of the town. It’s on the largest tree in the temple gardens, just next to the parasol vendor.

You’ll find this butterfly in a courtyard directly north of the Osaka Gear Vendor in the north of the town. It’s on the western side of the river. Look for several artisans working away, then look for the tallest tree in the area. The butterfly is on that tree not far from a well.

You’ll find this one in the very north of the Osaka town area, on the eastern bank of the river that cuts through the town and southwest of the Nishinomaru Garden in the castle grounds. Follow the path that lines the water north until it bends to the right. The tree is by the water as the path turns.

The final butterfly is in the southwest of the Fishermen’s District, not far from the bridge that crosses over into the Sakai sub-region. North of the bridge is a stable with two horses. You’ll find the butterfly attached to the tree behind the staple.
Once you’ve found all ten butterflies, head back to the woman in Katano to get your rewards. Although, we do recommend tackling the several quests that unlock when you complete The Butterfly Collector to get to the bottom of the kidnappings. At this point, it’s also worth taking on the Kabukimono quest, which involves tracking down a gang of troublesome ronin.
