You can reset your character level after reaching level 40 by spending a Crystallization Catalyst.
Resetting your level allows you to increase socket capacity.
You can get these by completing all story missions, research, or from the store.

You might think that getting max level with your favourite character is the end of the journey. But you can keep improving that character through a system similar to prestige systems from other games. In essence, in The First Descendant, you can reset the level of a character back to level 1 by improving their Mastery and increasing their power going forward. Fair warning though, it’s going to be a grind.

How to reset Descendant level

When you reach level 40 with a character, you can use the Crystallization Catalyst on a Module Socket. This will reset the character to level 1, while the chosen socket will halve the capacity cost of all modules of that socket type. This will then let you slot in even more modules, leading to more powerful builds. This is not a one-time deal either. You can improve other slots, thus increasing your capacity and empowering your build’s potential. Just bear in mind that each time you do this, your level will be reset back to the beginning. This can be done for weapons as well.

Take the following steps to apply this item and reset your level:

Enter the Inventory menu (press I on PC, or Menu, then Inventory on consoles).
Click on Descendant Module at the bottom of the list on the left side.
Click on Module Additional Settings on the right side of the screen. You need to have Mastery Rank 7 to have access to this option.
Select Assign Module Type from the offered options.
Choose the module slot with a neutral socket type you wish to upgrade and the type you want to assign.
Click Apply Socket Type and spend your Crystallization Catalyst to do it.

How to get Crystallization Catalysts fast

Buy from the Store for 300 Caliber in the Support Material tab
Mission reward for finishing story missions “Intercept Battle: Hanged Man” and “Enhanced Void Training: A Short Respite”
Research by acquiring materials

The most reliable way of getting this item is through research. To do that, you have to speak with Magister Anais in Albion. In the research menu, look for Enhancement Materials, then select Crystallization Catalyst. You will also need to spend 187,500 Gold to begin researching on a 7.5-hour timer. You’ll need several rare materials to begin researching:

Murky Energy Residue

Beat the Elite Vulgues foe in The Forgottense mission in the Restricted Zone of the Sterile Land to get this item. You’ll run into them at the halfway point so you can choose to run a private lobby, farm this resource, and leave the mission. It usually starts with clearing surveillance zones and interacting with a terminal before clearing another wave of foes. This will take you to a Crystal Device which needs to be defended for 3 minutes. And finally, beat Eterllick the Tracker to clear the mission.

Macromolecule Biogel

The Vulgus Strategic Outposts situated in the Muskeg Swamp and Derelict Covert areas of Echo Swamp offer this resource. Clearing them normally involves destroying three generators and beating a boss. But if you’re using Sharen, you can use her stealth ability to infiltrate the space, hack the three generators, and silently clear the mission for additional rewards.

Crystallization Catalyst Blueprint

There are two ways of earning this resource in the game:

First, clear The Haven mission in the Corrupted Zone of Hagios for Amorphous Material Pattern: 043. To shape this with a Reconstructed Device (15% chance), beat the Swamp Walker boss.
Instead, clear The Chapel mission in the Derelict Covert area of Echo Swamp for Amorphous Material Pattern: 023. Then beat the Dead Bride boss to get a Reconstructed Device that has a 15% chance of spawning this item. We recommend this route as it’s simpler.
