S+ Tier – The Absolute Best Units in the Game

These are the strongest units in Anime Expeditions and should be your top priority whenever you get them. They combine exceptional damage, powerful passives, or unmatched utility that remains valuable from Story Mode to the toughest endgame content.

Shadow (Divine)

Shadow is arguably the most complete unit in the game. Its Shadow Realm active ability transforms the entire map, rewinding enemies in range by 50% of Shadow’s Range and granting all Magical units +25% Damage for 30 seconds. The Divine Spirit summon deals 100% of Shadow’s base Damage and cannot be despawned, killed, or stunned. Additional passives summon a Winged Spirit that deals 75% of current Damage every five seconds with stun, and a Wolf Spirit that can be independently upgraded. Shadow’s ability to support magic teams, deal damage, summon minions, and rewind enemies makes it one of the best overall units in the game.

Best Trait: Unbound

8th Sword (Berserk)

8th Sword holds the highest recorded damage ceiling in the current build, with min-maxed runs pushing past 60k damage. Its passive Execution Cycle teleports to priority targets every 10 seconds and applies stun, with each takedown permanently adding 1% Damage up to 100%.Demonic Presence deals 5% of current damage every second to enemies inside its inner range. After 25 takedowns, The Nameless Demon triggers Berserk mode for 15 seconds, granting 20% Damage, 10% lower SPA, and Dismembered on every attack—permanently cutting enemy Movement Speed. It’s a full AoE meta DPS unit with the highest damage numbers in the game.

Best Trait: Unbound

Puppet (Telekinetic)

Puppet is one of the best Mythics in the game, offering an amazing mix of massive DPS and support potential. Its Puppet Mark automatically marks the strongest enemy in range for 15 seconds, causing marked enemies to take 20% increased incoming damage. This makes boss fights significantly easier by helping your entire team focus down priority targets. The summoned doll provides another reliable damage source without needing additional setup.

Best Trait: Unbound

Cursed Student (True Love)

Cursed Student is one of the only top-tier units you can realistically obtain earlier and then evolve later, making it an excellent choice for early and mid-game players. Follow-up attacks and Bleed stacking allow it to shred high-health targets with ease, and Bat Spirit summons increase its damage output during extended fights. Cursed Student can fit multiple roles—damage, control, and summoner value—making it one of the safest investments in the game.

Best Trait: Unbound (Draconic is also good for DoT boost)

Toy Maker

Toy Maker is the best summoner unit in the game, with summoned units that can deal massive damage by themselves. However, Toy Maker has a one-placement limit, making her far more dependent on a single trait than any other unit. With Unbound, that one placement scales exceptionally well and she surges into A-tier or even S-tier for damage. Without it, treat her as a B or even C option rather than a universal carry.

Best Trait: Unbound (essential)

S Tier – Excellent Units That Can Carry Your Team

S Tier units are only a small step below the absolute best. They either excel in a specific role or offer powerful support that can elevate your entire team.

Crimson (Brother)

Crimson marks regular enemies and causes them to explode after five seconds, making it excellent against packed waves. Each explosion leaves a damaging Crimson pool behind, adding useful lingering path damage. Piercing Crimson attacks further improve its performance on straight paths and against tightly grouped enemies. While on the lower side of S-Tier, Crimson remains quite good due to constant Bleed DoTs.

Best Trait: Unbound

Flame Emperor (Reincarnate)

Burn spreads across nearby enemies, making Flame Emperor one of the strongest wave-clearing units available. Walls of fire add another layer of damage to every path enemies travel. It’s a solid unit for clearing groups while also helping with crowd control.

Best Trait: Draconic

Salmon Sorcerer (Grade 1)

Salmon Sorcerer is one of the best control units because it can slow enemies. Slowing enemies is extremely useful because it gives your whole team more time to deal damage. Its equipment further enhances this: Crumble Away applies Slow based on the current attack—Explode (20%), Blast Away (35%), Twist (50%), Crush (65%).

Best Trait: Primordial or Unbound

Lady Giant (Envy)

Lady Giant’s main damage comes from Giant form, which slows attack speed but massively boosts damage output. The Meta DPS levels come from combining Giant form with Primordial’s attack speed buff and items that boost attack speed. Rock Chunks trigger powerful follow-up attacks that improve overall DPS.

Best Trait: Primordial

Elf Mage (Unleashed)

Elf Mage is a follow-up attack Meta DPS machine that scales incredibly well with crits for massive damage. Arcane follow-up attacks scale unusually well with critical chance and critical damage, which is why Forsaken beats Unbound here. It’s simple, useful, and can help a lot in progression.

Best Trait: Forsaken

Ramen Guy

Ramen Guy increases Yen earned from defeated enemies by 50%, letting you reach expensive upgrades much earlier. Every efficient farming team benefits from having this economy unit.

Best Trait: Investor (or any economic trait)

A Tier – Reliable Choices for Progression

A Tier units remain reliable choices for Story Mode, Infinite, and Raids. If you don’t own higher-ranked units, these characters can easily carry your progression.

String Demon (Awakened): String Demon is an underrated DPS/Support unit with an amazing CC/Stall passive. Cocoon stuns provide valuable crowd control, while follow-up string attacks improve overall damage. It balances utility and offense better than most Mythics, though it deals lower damage than S-Tiers.

Best Trait:Primordial

Reaper (Released): Reaper is a full critical-based DPS unit that’s just near S-Tier but sits in A-Tier because of lower base damage. If you boost him with crit items and Forsaken for max crit, his self-buffs propel him to A+/S-. Multiple placements mean more self-buffs and clones, making him scale well with positioning.

Best Trait:Forsaken

Hollow (Blaze): Hollow deals increased damage against burning enemies, making it strongest alongside Flame Emperor. Without Burn support, its overall performance drops noticeably.

Best Trait:Draconic

Forbidden Teacher: Forbidden Teacher buffs every Magical unit within range, making it an excellent support for magic-focused teams. Upgrade levels continue to increase the strength of its aura.

Best Trait:Any support-oriented trait

The Hero: The Hero strengthens nearby Physical units with a scaling damage buff that benefits every carry around it. It fits naturally into physically-based team compositions.

Best Trait:Any support-oriented trait

True Saint (Holy): True Saint is one of the best beginner DPS units. You can get it for free from the Time Chamber (by remaining there for 18 hours before launch) or from the login calendar on the third day. Once evolved, True Saint becomes even better with strong DoT damage and an active skill that steals damage from the three strongest units in range. For new players, True Saint is one of the best units to build early. The NPC also directs you toward the Beginner Path event, which walks you through summoning, upgrading, equipping gear, and running Story Mode.

Best Trait:Any (don’t over-invest)

B Tier – Useful but Replaceable

B Tier units offer useful support effects that can fill temporary team slots. Avoid investing too many resources into them unless they perfectly fit your current lineup.

  • Greed: Deals extra damage against bosses, making it more useful during single-target encounters.
  • Ice Queen: Freeze effects help slow difficult enemies, with bonus damage activating against weakened targets.
  • Water Princess: Protective shields block incoming debuffs for nearby allies, improving team survivability.
  • Scissor: Consecutive attacks gradually increase damage against the same enemy.

C Tier – Early Game Fillers

C Tier units mainly exist for beginners as they are easier to pull. Their damage and utility quickly fall behind once better characters become available.

  • Stone Alchemist: Generates early income but is eventually outclassed by Ramen Guy.
  • Ice Mage: Slows enemy movement enough to help your main damage dealers attack longer.
  • Bounty Hunter, Corps Captain, Demon Cyborg, Nen Hunter: Provide basic damage without meaningful passive abilities.

D Tier – Avoid Investing

These are the weakest units currently available. They have no notable passives or scaling mechanics that allow them to compete with higher rarity characters.

  • Curly Brow, Kid Assassin, Reishi Archer, Thunder Shinobi, Rubber Boy, Carrot

How to Reroll Traits

Changing traits is straightforward once you know where the Trait NPC is located:

  1. Go to the Lobby: Head toward the Evolve section
  2. Find the Trait Station: The Trait Reroll NPC is located between the Evolve and Crafting areas
  3. Select Your Unit: Choose the character whose trait you want to replace
  4. Spend a Trait Crystal: Each reroll costs one Trait Crystal

Pro Tip: Use the Auto Reroll option and set filters to stop automatically when you hit your desired trait. This prevents accidentally rerolling a rare trait.

How to Get Trait Crystals

Trait Crystals are the only currency used for rerolling traits. The best ways to earn them include:

  • Completing Story stages
  • Clearing Expeditions
  • Daily login rewards
  • Redeeming codes
  • Event rewards
  • In-game mailbox gifts

Final Thoughts

Building the right team in Anime Expeditions isn’t just about chasing the rarest units—it’s about understanding what each unit actually does. Some units are good because they deal damage. Some are good because they support your team. Some are good because they control enemies. And some are good because they can do multiple things at the same time.

Good luck with your summons, and may the gacha gods bless you with an Unbound 8th Sword!
