Whiteout Survival Rally Joining Guide for both Offense and Defense

In Whiteout Survival, major alliance events such as the Bear Trap, Foundry, Castle Battle, and Fortress Fight are some of the most decisive moments in the game. Victory in these large-scale rallies depends not only on sheer troop strength but also on hero formations. Whether you’re leading a rally or joining one, your choice of heroes can make the difference between a crushing defeat and a triumphant win. This guide will focus primarily on rally joiners, though we’ll also touch on rally leadership and other important mechanics so you can maximize your role in every major event.
Understanding Hero Classes
Every hero in Whiteout Survival belongs to one of three classes:
- Infantry – frontline defenders, designed to absorb damage and protect your damage dealers.
- Marksman – ranged attackers who inflict the highest damage output in rallies.
- Lancer – cavalry-type units that balance survivability with offensive abilities.
When joining or leading rallies, a good balance between these classes ensures survivability and steady damage over time. However, not all classes carry the same weight in every situation—knowing when to prioritize damage dealers versus tanks is crucial.
Rally Leaders
If you are the one starting a rally, you should assign your three strongest heroes—one from each class (Infantry, Marksman, and Lancer). This ensures maximum effectiveness because all three heroes’ right-side skills (three each, nine total) are activated in a rally.
The order you place them in does not matter; all their skills are used regardless of sequence. What does matter is prioritizing new-generation heroes, as they usually outperform older ones. For pay-to-play players, Jeronimo remains the best all-around hero through the early generations, though power creep ensures newer heroes eventually take the lead.
Additionally, exclusive hero gear plays a big role. At level 10, half of the bonuses apply to expedition battles (world map rallies) and the other half to exploration modes (Arena, Lighthouse, etc.). If you’re investing in gear, always aim to hit at least level 5 for consistent improvements to rally performance.
Rally Joiners
For most players, joining rallies will be your main role. Unlike leaders, only one of your heroes matters—your first hero (blue flag icon). When you join a rally, only your top-right skill of that hero is counted, meaning a single decision can massively influence the rally outcome. This makes hero selection for rally joining absolutely critical.
Choosing the Right Rally Heroes
When deciding which hero to use as your rally joiner, the first step is determining whether the rally is offensive or defensive.
Offensive Rallies (Attacking) – Choose heroes whose top-right skill boosts troop attack, lethality, or total damage dealt. Examples include Jessie or other DPS-focused heroes.
Defensive Rallies (Holding a Structure) – Select heroes whose top-right skill increases troop defense, health, or reduces incoming damage. Some defensive heroes also offer crowd-control effects like stuns or slows, making them excellent choices for holding castles or fortresses.
Coming to heroes, one common point of confusion is between Jessie and Reina. At first glance, Reina seems superior because her skill lists a 420% boost, compared to Jessie’s 75% boost. However, Jessie affects “damage dealt”, while Reina boosts only “normal attack damage”. This distinction is huge as Normal attack damage applies only to troop auto-attacks. On the other hand, Damage dealt boosts every form of damage—normal attacks, hero skill damage, pet abilities, and teammate buffs. Because of this, Jessie is consistently the best rally joiner for attacking rallies across multiple hero generations.
Other Key Rally Factors to Keep in Mind
While your heroes are the core focus in Rallies, some other factors also play an important role in deciding the outcome of the battle. These are as follows:
1) Troop Tier and Rally Capacity
Troops are the foundation of every rally. Higher-tier troops (T9, T10) have much higher stats in all categories (attack, lethality, and defense) than lower-tier troops. Always upgrade to higher tiers before significant events. It is also vital to consider how many troops you can contribute. Rally capacity is determined by the rally leader’s command center level and research, particularly the “Regimental Expansion” technology. A larger capacity implies more troops, which directly translates into more damage or stronger defenses.
2) Pets
Pets provide additional skills that can buff your army, debuff enemies, or deal direct damage. Choosing the right pet before a rally can give your alliance the extra push needed to win. Always activate your most effective pet buffs before committing to a rally.
3) Chief Gear and Charms
Your chief is more than just a figurehead as Chief Charms and Chief Gear significantly affect your overall rally performance. Upgrading and refining these items increases both offensive and defensive capabilities, ensuring your troops hit harder and survive longer. Efficient gearing can often be the difference between ranking high in an event and falling short.
