10 Game Soundtracks That Prove Video Games Deserve A Spot At The Grammy’s

Did you know that the Grammy’s now has an award for video game soundtracks? I had no clue that was a thing, but apparently, it was finally introduced. It’s good to see video game soundtracks are finally getting the recognition they deserve, but unfortunately, some of the all-time greatest soundtracks won’t ever be eligible for one of those awards.

You probably already have a few excellent soundtracks in your head. Those soundtracks you shamelessly play in the car as you zip around doing chores like they’re your own personal sidequests. Sure, that guy at the red light next to you is totally judging you, but that doesn’t matter because you have exquisite taste.
10 Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Considering the original Final Fantasy 7 soundtrack could be on this list, Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a no-brainer. It takes every classic track and brings it into the modern day with beautiful orchestration. If you thought One-Winged Angel went hard before… I’ve got some news for you.
Prepare your soul and ear holes before listening to the modern version because, just wow. There’s a reason so many people started tearing up the first time they heard Tifa’s and Aerith’s themes in the remake. And no! I’m not just talking about myself, I promise.
9 Persona 5
This entire entry could just be a list of track titles from the Persona 5 soundtrack that everyone loves, it wouldn’t make sense to everyone, but it would make sense to just enough people. With the kind of funky jams that make me want to bust out my best rhythmless moves, this soundtrack is an instant classic of the genre.
While every song from the game instantly became iconic, the chilled-out Beneath The Mask might just be one of the most famous pieces aside from Last Surprise. Let’s be honest; we all screech along to every song in this game in the most wonderfully tone-deaf way possible.
8 Chrono Trigger
Sure, Chrono Trigger’s soundtrack may amount to SNES beeps and boops to some, but that doesn’t mean those aren’t some amazing beeps and boops. Even thinking about Chrono Trigger probably takes everyone to that awesome Magus boss fight theme, though that’s probably just because of how many times we all got our butts kicked there.

This soundtrack has more variety than a Walmart that was just taken over by Costco. Do you want something fast-paced? Listen to that battle them. Something to make you feel all nostalgia and like you’re gonna cry a bit? Far Off Promise is your jam.
7 Cuphead
The sheer classic big band jazz and old-timey joy that Cuphead's soundtrack is filled with are just too powerful to give an award to. It doesn’t matter how angry you get at all the times you’ll have to retry all those boss fights because the music that you keep dying to absolutely slaps.
The sheer creativity of the whole game is incredible, but the love and care that went into crafting the soundtrack was next level. Why a game about anthropomorphic cups needed such a killer soundtrack is anyone’s guess, but I don’t think anyone is complaining.
6 Skyward Sword
Say whatever you want about the gameplay of Skyward Sword, but this game blessed the world with the immaculate track that is Ballad Of The Goddess. This game was the first in the series to have an orchestrated soundtrack, and honestly, the world wasn’t ready for it.
This game gave us the hilarious and goofy track that is Groose’s Theme, and there isn’t anyone who played this game that’s forgotten that tune. What better thing to hear than some hilarious low trombones while getting bullied by that absolute oddity of a person?
5 Kingdom Hearts 3
The story may be ridiculously complicated, but you know what isn't? That stellar soundtrack. It’s straightforward and beautiful. It feels like every track in the game could be thrown into a movie, and it would work perfectly. I’m not just saying that because this game features tons of Disney-property-inspired songs in it.
Those Disney-style tracks are all great, but honestly, the soundtrack really shines with most of its original music. Is that controversial to say? That feels controversial to say. The good news is, it’ll only be another decade and a half before we get another stellar soundtrack from this series.
4 Super Mario Galaxy
Don’t even try to argue with this one because I know that as soon as you read the title, you heard that epic brass fanfare from the title screen. It’s okay; it’s awesome. This is another orchestrated soundtrack, and Nintendo did not miss the mark for their favorite Italian plumber.
This soundtrack was more surprising than Chris Pratt being announced as the voice of Mario, and I mean that in the best way possible. Those Rosalina’s Comet Observatory themes are iconic for a reason, and that reason is that it makes everyone suddenly want to learn how to ballroom dance.
3 Undertale
Megalovania. Did we get all the memes out? Good. Undertale's soundtrack is astonishingly good for basically being the work of a single person. Even though it’s that throwback pixel midi kind of sound, I think it still deserves a spot amongst the top soundtracks.

Fallen Down, Sans, Anticipation, Snowy, and the list goes on and on. Whether you’re stuck on some robot’s weird show or visiting the Temmie’s everyone loves this soundtrack. Back to Megalovania, did Toby Fox need to go that hard for that boss fight? No, but he did, and we all salute him for it.
2 Sonic Generations
Some people might be turning their noses at this entry, but go back and listen to the soundtrack; it’s shockingly good. Sonic Adventure 2 Might have Escape From The City, but Sonic Generations has two versions of the song as it does for its many iconic levels.
If you aren’t shouting “FOLLOW ME” along with the song every time you play the game, I don’t even know what to say to you. You’re still great, though. Seriously though, this soundtrack has more mood changes than I did in my awkward teen years, and it’s just wonderful.
1 Mass Effect 3
The entire Mass Effect series could be on this list, but we just can’t handle all that awkward hip action from Commander Shepard. Mass Effect 3 takes the cake for the best of the series with some of the most emotional and resonant tracks in the entire series.
I Was Lost Without You and An End, Once And For All might just be the two most iconic pieces of music from this series, and it’s not even a competition. If you aren’t feeling weepy whenever you hear those tracks, except for during Tali'Zorah’s hilariously adorable rendition of I Was Lost Without You, you might just need to go play the trilogy again.
