10 Best RPGs With Zombies

Many role-playing games have made excellent use of zombies, and here we look at the best RPGs that have incorporated the living dead.

Posts

Zombie Games have evolved over the years to give players a more accurate post-apocalyptic experience. Rather than facing 2 or 3 zombies at a time, they can throw entire swarms at you to wear you down. Here are ten Zombie games that will push you to the limit with their zombie hoards.

1 Dead Rising

Hundreds Of Undead

Dead Rising is known for having plenty of zombies on screen. If you ever want to see what a fully transformed population would look like in a videogame, then Dead Rising titles have the perfect examples.

As the series introduced bigger areas, even more zombies could be seen on screen, with Dead Rising 4 having massive swarms that could drown you out if you weren’t careful. Luckily, anything you can get your hands on can be used as a weapon, including deadly combo weapons that make taking down hoards easier.

2 Left 4 Dead

Infinite Replayability

The Left 4 Dead Series may only consist of 2 games, but it is one of the most beloved zombie franchises in gaming, with plenty of custom campaigns and content. Zombies in these games run, meaning you can become quickly overwhelmed all of a sudden.

To make things even more difficult, some of the infected can either pin you down, tear you from the group, or even blind you while luring in more enemies. In higher difficulties, this can leave you helpless as the undead swarm you.

3 Back 4 Blood

Too Many Special Zombies

Back 4 Blood is the spiritual successor to Left 4 Dead, even if the original still takes the crown. There are plenty of enemies that can swarm you if you’re not careful, but also plenty of environmental hazards that can lead them toward you.

Getting too close to birds can cause them to fly away, alerting the hoard of your presence, while other infected might show up with corruption cards that make the swarm thicker than ever. Running out of ammo is no laughing matter.

4 World War Z

Fight The Entire Population

World War Z may not have been the best adaptation of the novel, but it sure was entertaining. The game is also up there as a fantastic zombie co-op game. If you’re looking for swarms of zombies to kill, then World War Z offers countless enemies that rush you and can easily overpower you.

The game gives you just enough time to breathe while constantly putting pressure on you to keep fighting. Unlike other games where you can conserve ammo, running out of bullets is a guarantee.

5 Project Zomboid

Realistic Zombie Strategies

Project Zomboid knows how to swarm a player even with limited zombies on the screen at once. Your vision is limited to what is in front of you. This requires players to constantly check their surroundings. Unsuspecting players may walk through the streets upgrading their arsenal, but if they fail to check behind them, they might quickly realize that a hoard has formed.

Unlike many games where zombies lose interest after a while, Project Zomboid’s undead continue their pursuit, and player stamina might not be enough to make a clean getaway.

6 Dead Island 2

Don't Get Overwhelmed

Dead Island 2 offers more zombies, more gore, and more weapons than the first game. Fighting a zombie one on one can be easy enough, but they quickly gather around you making fights more than you bargained for. Keeping your stamina and health in check is crucial.

Some zombies move faster, while others are built like tanks. This makes the methods of combating them different for each type. Focusing too much on these threats can allow the slower undead to sneak up on you and catch you by surprise.

7 Call of Duty Zombies

Round One Start

Every match of Call of Duty Zombies used to end with the player getting completely swarmed. These zombies just keep getting stronger each round, and players who don’t upgrade their weapons or buy perks can easily get overrun. Modern Zombies allows you to exfil and end the match when you get tired.

Exfilling gives you some rewards to keep grinding the game to unlock the full experience. However, the match doesn’t just end; once you call in for your evacuation, you need to make it across the hoards of undead through tight spaces to reach your destination in time.

8 State of Decay 2

Don't Get Knocked Down

Zombies in State of Decay 2 can knock you down temporarily. This can make you feel helpless as the undead keep attacking you. With the added pressure of losing a character permanently. This can lead to a feeling of being overwhelmed by the zombies.

At times, the undead will attack your bases, and you will need to lead the fight. With so many zombies attacking at once, being able to save everyone might not be an option. So make sure to keep your base well-armed and protected.

9 Dying Light 2

A Parkour Adventure

Dying Light 2 brings back the parkour gameplay of the first. As the zombies have replaced much of the population in the City of Villedor, staying at street level can be dangerous. If you do happen to find yourself on the ground, the infected are always nearby and will come to your location.

At night, it becomes even worse as even more deadly infected walk the streets and can pursue you relentlessly. With limited visibility, it can become difficult to parkour as you normally would during the day. So watch your step.

10 No More Room in Hell

Save Your Bullets

No More Room in Hell shows that the genre doesn’t need fast zombies to throw pressure on a player. Rather than focus on having special zombies that mutate to have abilities, this game does its best to make those abilities part of the environment.

Zombie soldiers have protected heads, while zombie children are a bit more nimble, but not too much so that they become runners. The threat of infection, limited bullets, and zombies dying only to headshots can cause slow but persistent zombies to overwhelm you.
