Ys X: Nordics - Naglfar Nucleus Boss Fight Guide

While progressing the story of Ys X: Nordics, you'll meet the three main villains quite early, with Odr evidently being the ring leader. He'll offer to fight against you at the start just to show you how strong he is, and you'll then start your journey to gain some strength so that you can challenge this intimidating enemy.

You'll finally get a chance to beat him after boarding the Griegr warship and entering the main generator room. However, he won't be the only one attacking you, and this will by far be the hardest fight you've faced in the story.

Just by looking at the stats above, you can likely already tell just how difficult this fight will be. This is the first main boss fight you'll encounter after Logr, and he had half the amount of health. Apart from boasting these high stats, the Naglfar Nucleus battle also features two enemies that attack you at the same time: Odr and the Nucleus itself.

Normal Slashes

When Odr has his durability bar, he'll commonly perform slash attacks where he charges his hand for a second before performing one or two quick slashes.

Ground Stomps

Odr generally has two types of ground stomps in this battle. One of them occurs quite commonly with him raising his leg in the air and then smashing it on the ground. The other one only triggers if you're far away.

The second stomp has a much larger AoE, damage, and crowd control.

Red Attack

Odr will commonly glow in a red aura where he charges a giant orb on his head and then throws it at you. This attack is quite easy to parry once you get used to it, making it great for increasing your revenge gauge.

In another red attack, Odr can charge his hook before flying up in the air and then smashing the ground.

Speed Attack

On the other hand, the Nucleus will commonly charge with a blue aura before shooting a laser with a big width.

Dark Orb

Sometimes, you'll see Odr charging a dark orb in his hands. When you see this, the best course of action is to run far away as he'll momentarily try to grab your active character and deal heavy damage if he's successful.

Apart from these attacks, the Nucleus can also perform some close-range attacks when you're trying to deal damage to it.

How To Defeat Naglfar Nucleus

The fight against Naglfar Nucleus is one of the few in Ys X: Nordics where you need to strategize properly. The main thing you have to keep in mind is that while the Nucleus itself can change its position, it doesn't have a lot of mobility and mostly stays on one side of the battlefield. Odr, on the other hand, will constantly move around to attack you.

The essential idea of the battle is that you first have to take away Odr's durability bar, which immobilizes him for a few seconds, and you can then focus your attacks on the Nucleus until he gets up again. The good thing is that the Nucleus doesn't regenerate its durability or health at any point in the battle.

You can't permanently defeat Odr during the battle, and your only choice is to constantly immobilize him.

One quick way to end this battle is by staying near the Nucleus since Odr will follow you there anyway, and you can use AoE attacks to hit them both. However, you'll have to be quite good at dodging and parrying for this since you'll face a constant barrage of attacks from both enemies with little time to react.

On the other hand, you can also stay far away from the Nucleus and focus on Odr first before you get to attack it. Either way, having multiple abilities with high Break damage is important for this battle.
