Ozmid Expanse will be second out of the many main areas you can visit in Ys X: Nordics, and it'll introduce a new gameplay called Island Recapture. From this area onward, you'll commonly see islands with a pink shield around them, and these islands can be recaptured for various purposes.

Firstly, you'll be able to get bountiful rewards based on your performance in the recapture. You can also unlock the recaptured island as a travel point on the map, and Hugill gets the ability to show you all points of interest in the surrounding area once you free up an island.

Sea Recapture Guide

The first step to recapturing an island is getting close to it when you see it on the sea. As you get close, you'll see a popup where you can find a lot of information including:

  • Rewards for the first clear and each tier of your performance
  • All the special crew recapture abilities you might witness
  • Difficulty of the recapture and the amount of waves you'll go through in both parts.

Once you've read all the information, you can either go forward with the normal recapture or use a Blitz Beacon to skip a large part of the recapture. It's highly recommended to do it normally since it's nearly impossible to get an S-tier rating if you use the beacon to skip the recapture.

Upon using the beacon, the game skips the sea recapture and spawns you directly in the last room of the land recapture for the final battle.

Once you start the battle, multiple ships will spawn around the island with three barrier pillars. The main goal is to destroy all three of these pillars in each wave, and as soon as you get rid of them in one wave, the next wave instantly starts. However, it's also important to pay attention to the bottom left of your screen.

Here, you can see various tasks that'll give you a morale boost shown above your HP on the bottom right. Whenever a new level of this boost is achieved, one of the crew's abilities will be triggered. However, this morale level plays an even bigger role once you start the land part of a recapture.

It's not difficult to quickly get rid of the pillars and end the sea recapture, but it's recommended to stall a bit and try to complete your tasks.

This will not only give more points to your final score, but also make the land battle easier.

After defeating all the turrets in each wave, the shield from the island will go away and Adol and Karja will move to land for the next part.

Land Recapture Guide

As soon as you enter the land battle, you'll see a popup showing you the various buffs you achieved based on your morale level (up to level ten). These can include lower damage taken, higher damage health, and even higher maximum revenge gauge multiplier among many others.

During the land battle, you essentially have to enter a certain number of rooms and defeat all the enemies in them before moving to the next one. Some rooms might also have hidden mechanisms that you'll need to reveal with Mana Sense. After defeating the enemy in the final room, the recapture will be over.

Your final rewards are based on the scores for both your sea and land capture, and you get the best rewards for the S tier.

If you end up finishing a recapture without reaching the best tier, you can always attempt it again through the planning room on the Sandras.
