Ys 8: Lacrimosa of Dana features an ever-expanding island, giving you access to different characters, unique upgrades, and new side objectives to tackle. Hunts are one of the more critical optional missions you can do, offering excellent rewards and incentives to tackle them. There are nine Hunts in total, making them relatively painless to take time out of your adventure to tackle.

Hunts are similar to Raids in Lacrimosa of Dana, as both are round-based activities that offer rewards based on your performance and other factors. However, unlike Raids, Hunts are located in various regions of the island and aren't limited to the Castaway Village, meaning you will come across them naturally as you progress through the story.

Hunts Overview

Before diving into all the rewards you can earn by tackling Hunts, let's first cover how you unlock them, how many waves they have, and whether or not they're optional or part of the story. While basically, all Hunts are optional, we suggest completing all of them and trying to achieve S Rank on them, as the rewards and payoff for doing so are excellent and will help you out more than most activities in the game, especially when it comes to obtaining enough Reputation (200) for the true ending.

Hunt Rewards

Now that we know how to unlock Hunts, it's time to dive into what we can get from them and our performances. But first, before we do, let's quickly cover what we get Reputation-wise from Hunts, as that is one of the main draws for tackling them in the first place. Earning Reputation from Hunts is directly tied to your performance during them, with higher tiers netting you more.

  • C Tier - 1 Reputation Point
  • B Tier - 2 Reputation Point
  • A Tier - 3 Reputation Point
  • S Tier - 4 Reputation Point

As you can see, obtaining S Rank on a Hunt will net your 4 Reputation Points, allowing you to get a total of 36 Reputation Points if you successfully achieve S Rank on all nine Hunts, which is a lot. As mentioned earlier, you will need 200 Reputation Points to unlock the game's true ending. Hunts and Raids will significantly help you with this, rescuing every Castaway, feeding Shoebill and Mishy, and much more. Now, let's get into the other rewards Hunts offer, as they are just as crucial as Reputation and are an excellent incentive to have you chase after achieving S Rank.

Tips On Achieving S Rank

Don't let the staggeringly high score for achieving S Ranks in Hunts deter you from attempting them. Due to every Hunt having ten waves, your score will naturally be inflated, making it seem less intimidating in hindsight. This doesn't mean that getting S Rank is a walk in the park, necessarily, but it does make it more manageable and allows you to focus on a few things to help get you over the edge.

Aside from Jungle Outbreak and Take Back the Eroded Valley!, we recommend putting off every Hunt until late in the game when you're nearing the end and are well leveled. Not only will your level be much higher than what's recommended, but you will hopefully have your weapons fully upgraded, have the best gear equipped on your party members, and have leveled up the best Skills for each of them. These will be a breeze if you have been taking care of your party, primarily if you spawn Torches and keep them alive.

Torches are a crucial part of Hunts and are comparable to the Lures and Stockades found in Raids. However, you can replace destroyed Torches in Hunts, allowing you to continually build new ones to earn a large sum of bonus score at the end of a Hunt if you're quick enough to replace them and keep them alive before finishing the final wave. Not only that, but you will be able to keep most of your Torches alive if your party is adequately fitted and geared up, which is why weurge you to tackle almost every Hunt near the end of your journey.

Lastly, please refer to the links below if you want more information on how to completely upgrade your party's weapons, the best builds and team composition, and much more. These guides will help you understand each character, the game's combat system, and how to manage it all, allowing you to get the most out of each party member and utilize them to their fullest!
