The Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters series introduced some of the most iconic items in anime history. These are the seven Millennium Items that were created in Ancient Egypt. Each one grants the user fantastic abilities, which are primarily used to cheat at card games, whether it be knowing everything your opponent is playing or having a stand-in duel for you.

7 The Millennium Ring
A Terrible Cost
The Millennium Ring is an interesting artifact because you only ever see the worst possible effects. For starters, it is the only other item besides the Millennium Puzzle which has a soul trapped within. However, unlike the Millennium Puzzle, which coexists with its wielder, the Millennium Ring’s soul takes possession of the user whenever it wants.
Despite this negative quality of the ring, these effects are not its true abilities. The Millennium Ring’s native abilities include pointing the user in the direction of something they are looking for and being able to attach pieces of the wielder's soul to objects. It is the most unstable of the Millennium Items due to Yami Bakura’s interference, while not having many practical uses aside from being a golden compass.
6 The Millennium Scale
Weigh A Person’s Soul
The Millennium Scale is the weakest of the Millennium Items once the modern era hits. In Ancient Egypt, the Millennium Scale could weigh a person’s soul and determine if they are evil or not. It is even capable of killing anyone who is so evil that their side of the scale hits the bottom. The scale also has the power to fuse monsters as an early method of using Polymerization.

Posts 1Aside from these powers, the Millennium Scale doesn’t have much else to it and, thus, doesn’t make too many appearances in the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime. While other Millennium Items have uses in a duel or let you dominate the world, the scales just don’t have what it takes to leave an impact. At least it won’t possess you if you try to use it.
5 The Millennium Necklace
Future Vision
The Millennium Necklace can show you the future or the ancient past. It is used by Ishizu Ishtar at various moments throughout the anime to show Yugi and Kaiba visions of Egypt. It is also used as a way to show Kaiba the outcome of the duel between Ishizu and Kaiba during the battle city arc.
While the Millennium Necklace is good for getting insight into historical events or those that haven’t happened yet, it is limited in its ability to change those events. Everything in the future is set in stone. Only other Millennium Items have a chance of altering predicted outcomes, making the Millennium Necklace an item primarily used to gather information.
4 The Millennium Key
Mind Alteration
Mind control and mind alteration are two very different ball games. The Millennium Key doesn’t allow you to control another being but rather enter a person’s very soul. The Millennium Key then grants you the ability to alter a person’s personality or even wipe it out entirely.

You can't always trust what you see. The cards don't actually work that way.
PostsIn the anime, the Millennium Key is also shown to have additional powers such as invisibility, sensing the transfer of Millennium Items, or even telepathic communication. In the ancient past, The Millennium Key was wielded by Shimon and used to seal away Exodia, the Forbidden One, as well as release it to do battle. The biggest downside to this ability is that Exodia is only as powerful as the wielder’s own life force.
3 The Millennium Puzzle
Power Over All Games
The Millennium Puzzle may be the key to solving the mystery behind the Millennium Items and ridding the world of evil, but is it really the most powerful item of them all? It contains the soul of the Pharaoh and allows the wielder to have an unparalleled edge in any kind of game.
The biggest downside to using it is that you need to solve the puzzle before the item gives you any kind of power. Regardless, the Millennium Puzzle only has power in game-related settings and can be rendered useless if a single piece goes missing. Luckily, the Millennium Puzzle does offer the user some protection against the forces of darkness as well as the ability to swap between souls freely with some coordination from Atem.
2 The Millennium Rod
Mind Control And Monster Detection
The Millennium Rod is one of the more useful items due to its ability to control minds. Priest Seto used the Millennium Rod in Ancient Egypt to discover monsters hidden within people’s souls. These laid the foundation for the shadow games, with the rod’s ability to pull the monsters out and place them into tablets.

There were some truly death-defying and dangerous duels in the Yugioh anime. We rank the most dangerous duels shown.
PostsIn the modern era, The Millennium Rod is wielded by Marik Ishtar, who uses it to control his army of rare hunters. He also uses it to force Joey to duel Yugi. The Millennium Rod is also one of the only items that doubles as a weapon since it has a hidden blade.
1 The Millennium Eye
Read Your Opponent’s Every Move
The Millennium Eye has some of the best powers of all the items. Not only can it allow you to see into other people’s minds, but you can also seal away their souls into cards if necessary. In the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime, the eye is also shown to allow the wielder to see visions of the dead, such as the late Cecelia Pegasus.
The Millennium Eye’s powers are not constrained by the card game, either. While Pegasus uses it to gain knowledge of his opponent’s hands and strategies, he does so by reading their minds. This also comes into use outside a duel since being able to read thoughts can make anything easier, whether it’s strategy games or business. The only downside is that the eye needs to choose you.
