Xbox Quietly Removes $1 Game Pass Trial Ready For Black Ops 6

Summary
- Xbox appears to have removed the option to trial Game Pass for $1 for your first 14 days.
- Its removal comes a little more than a week before Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 launches on Game Pass day one.
- People will likely be signing up for Game Pass just for the new CoD, but they'll no longer be able to do so for a reduced price.
Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 launches next week, a release that will mark a huge day for Xbox as it becomes the first Call Of Duty game to arrive on Game Pass Ultimate day one. However, if you're new to Game Pass and planned on cashing in on Xbox's $1 for your first 14 days offer ready for Black Ops 6's arrival, we've got some bad news.
Most subscription services offer potential customers a free or reduced rate trial to give them a taste of what they can have permanently for a monthly fee. Xbox's take on that is to give new subscribers their first two weeks of Game Pass Ultimate for a single dollar, charging $19.99 per month thereafter. However, as first spotted by CharlieIntel, the option to try Game Pass for 14 days and only pay $1 for the privilege appears to have been quietly removed.

PostsA screenshot shows the Game Pass options available and the $1 trial option is indeed missing. A quick check of the Game Pass store page further confirms that Xbox will no longer let you try the service for a reduced price. It's difficult to tell exactly when Xbox pushed the update, but it appears to be recent. At the time of typing this, when I searched for the trial on Google, the description for Game Pass on its Canadian store page still mentions the trial, but the option to use it isn't there when you click through.
Game Pass's $1 Trial Has Disappeared Nine Days Before Black Ops 6's Release
The timing of the trial's removal is almost certainly no coincidence. Xbox will be banking on a lot of new subscribers flocking to the service over the next two weeks as casual gamers who play Call Of Duty every year, and not much else, learn that they can sign up for a service that includes it rather than dropping $70 on a new game.
Xbox will naturally want those potential new subscribers to pay $20 and stick around rather than pay $1, get their fill of Black Ops 6 for two weeks, and then opt out of keeping Game Pass and therefore not start paying Xbox $20 per month. While a lot of Call Of Duty fans will be playing Black Ops 6 consistently until the next CoD releases a year from now, there will be a lot of people who play its campaign, dip into multiplayer while it's at its busiest, and then duck out. 14 days would be more than enough time to do that.
Removing the trial is another controversial move for Xbox when it comes to Game Pass pricing in a year when it has come under fire for doing that quite a lot already. There were fears that new Call Of Duty games would require a separate, more expensive Game Pass tier. That hasn't happened, however, you now need Ultimate to play it since other console tiers no longer include day one releases, and the monthly price of Ultimate was increased in September.

With a mind-bending narrative, and unbound by the rules of engagement, this is signature Black Ops.
The Black Ops 6 Campaign provides dynamic moment-to-moment gameplay that includes a variety of play spaces with blockbuster set pieces and action-packed moments, high-stakes heists, and cloak-and-dagger spy activity.
In a best-in-class Multiplayer experience, players will test their skills across 16 new maps at launch, including 12 core 6v6 maps and 4 Strike maps that can be played 2v2 or 6v6.
Black Ops 6 also marks the epic return of Round-Based Zombies, the fan-favorite mode where players will take down hordes of the undead in two brand-new maps at launch. Post-launch, players can look forward to even more exciting maps and groundbreaking experiences dropping into both Multiplayer and Zombies.
