Wreckfest is getting a sequel, with Wreckfest 2 just announced at today's THQ Nordic Digitial Showcase. The reveal comes alongside a trailer, with footage captured in-engine.

While only brief, this gives us a look at what the next Wreckfest instalment is aiming for. Like the first game, this has a heavy focus on combative racing, as you have to take down opponents as well as beat them in the race.

Wreckfest 2 Announced, Includes Car Customisation

Ahead of the showcase, THQ Nordic previewed some of Wreckfest 2's features to the press. Here, it was revealed that Wreckfest 2 will include expansive vehicle customisation, and there was no shortage of cosmetic options to play around with. It has what you'd expect from any car creator system, but also lets you make your car look like it's taken some damage, adding general wear and tear as well as rust.

Wreckfest 2's gameplay was described to us as "full body contact racing", with an emphasis on taking and dealing damage to your opponents. We certainly get a feel for that in the reveal trailer, as we see the player take a beating.

We were also told that Wreckfest 2 will be both single and multiplayer, so we'll have to wait and see what that looks like. However, it's safe to assume that we'll be able to play online and destroy each other's creations.

The first Wreckfest game launched in 2018, exclusively for PC. It was ported to PS4 and Xbox One the following year, before later making its way to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and even mobile. At the end of the announcement trailer, it's revealed that Wreckfest 2 is targeting PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It's unclear whether we can expect further ports down the line, as we saw with its predecessor.

We don't have any idea when it will be released yet, but based on what we saw, development is going well. And with it being some time since the initial launch of the first game, we might not have to wait too much longer until we get an update on Wreckfest 2.
