Even an RPG game that includes classes designed for healing needs some kind of universal method for restoring hit points when the conventional healer is not available. In World of Warcraft, this is covered by the secondary profession of First Aid. Like all professions in WoW, First Aid has undergone some changes since the game was first released in 2019. The Burning Crusade raised the level cap both on the skill and on all characters generally, and there was even more new content to experience whenWrath of the Lich King was re-released.

You can only choose two Primary Professions in WoW, but the Secondary professions are available to everyone, and First Aid is an essential skill that every character needs to learn. Here's a complete guide to training in this useful skill for all classes, from the time when you first venture out of the starting area to when it's time to hit the frosty beaches of Northrend.
In the Retail version of World of Warcraft, First Aid was removed as a Secondary skill that everyone could learn and is now a part of a primary profession, Tailoring. The following guide only pertains to the present version of World of Warcraft: Classic.
Reasons To Level First Aid
Healing doesn't have to be restricted to only a few classes, and although a few bandages won't replace a class like a Priest or Shaman it's still useful, even essential. Raiders always need to have bandages as part of their already extensive inventory of potions, oils, and buff foods, so it's worth maxing out this skill if you're planning on experiencing endgame content.
Even if you never plan on setting foot in a dungeon, this skill should be kept at maximum level and used often. Unlike other consumables like food, bandages can be used in combat and by any class. They help reduce the downtime between fights in the open world and PvP battles when a conventional healer isn't available.
Other Items Crafted With First Aid
The main product of First Aid is bandages made of various types of cloth, but lesser known and just as useful are the anti-venom solutions that you can also learn. The regular Anti-Venom is learned from a trainer and its upgraded counterpart, Strong Anti-Venom, is learned from a book.
The more recent addition, the Powerful Anti-Venom, is learned from a scroll and requires a First Aid skill level of 300 to make and use.
The materials required to make anti-venoms include Small, Large, and Huge Venom Sacs that drop from various kinds of spiders. These can be situational to use and make, but if you're fighting animals with poison attacks, they're handy.
First Aid In Old Azeroth
Any class can use First Aid to heal themselves and other players. There's a 30-second cooldown on the skill and you have to stand still while it's being applied, but the target can continue to move. It's not a substitute for a healer, but it can save a few crucial hit points if your party is in a tough situation.
Farming Cloth
There are a few locations in Azeroth that have earned a reputation for being ideal when it comes to cloth drops. Keep in mind that any time the enemies include humanoids, you're going to get cloth drops. Humanoids include harpies, centaurs, and undead in addition to humans.
The dungeons that correlate to the level of the character will drop cloth of that level as well, so running instances is always a good way to farm cloth. The Scarlet Monastery is a famous example of a single location where a player can farm up to mageweave depending on the wing they choose.
- Linen. Do some quests over in Durotar where you can slay Kirin Tor soldiers and pirates. Silverpine Forest and Teldrassil are also decent choices.
- Wool. The Hillsbrad Foothills is a good start, especially for Horde players that follow a long quest chain that includes killing a whole lot of humans and dwarves.
- Silk. The Alterac Mountains is the right level but has few quests, which means less incentive. Thousand Needles has a few tasks to kill Centaur and Tauren, which also drop cloth.
- Mageweave. Feralas, with copious amounts of ogres, is one option. Tanaris has a lot of thieves and pirates to slay.
- Runecloth. Felwood, which has plenty of both demon worshippers and Furbolgs to kill, is ideal and still has some Mageweave drops. The Western Plaguelands is also a great farming location because undead characters count as humanoids.

- Shaina Fuller. In the Cathedral of Light in the center of Stormwind City. She's in one of the alcoves on the right as you walk in.
- Nissa Firestone. Standing in the Ironforge Physician building near the Great Forge.
- Thamner Pol. Kharanos is the first town most Gnomes and Dwarves visit in Dun Morogh. He's inside the Thunderbrew Distillery.
Horde
- Arnok. On the west side of the Valley of Spirits in Orgrimmar.
- Mary Edras. In the Rogues' Quarter of Undercity, on the inner circle with the vendors.

Leveling First Aid Up To 150
Tailors have some advantages here, since they'll be the ones hoarding most of the cloth, and anything they don't need for their primary profession can be used to level First Aid. Keep the level range within yellow or orange when crafting to get one point for each bandage.
- Linen Bandages. Take your skill to level 4o with these. You can go up to 45 but you can learn Heavy Linen at 40.
- Heavy Linen Bandages. Go up to 80 until you can learn wool. The Anti-Venom can also fill this gap.
- Wool Bandages. Go from 80 to about 115, then switch to Heavy.
- Heavy Wool Bandages. And easy stretch from 115 to 125, or go all the way to 150 from here if you have the wool.
- Silk Bandages. Use these to get to at least 125, or preferably 150.
At this point, you should have reached at least level 125 or 150 and can buy and learn the book that teaches Heavy Silk Bandage. You can use either wool or silk to grind up to 150.
Expert And Artisan First Aid
To train past skill level 150 in First Aid, you have to use a book and complete a quest. Where you buy the book and get the quest depends on the faction but both are the same.
Expert First Aid, Level 150 - 225
The book is called "Expert First Aid - Under Wraps" and it can be purchased any time you want, but can't be used until your skill level is at least 125 and your character is at least level 30. Both of these vendors also sell recipe books for Heavy Silk Bandage and Mageweave Bandage.
- Deneb Walker. Look for her by the chapel in the Alliance-friendly area of Stromgarde Keep, in the southern part of the Arathi Highlands.
- Balai Lok'Wein. Brackenwall Village is the best the Horde can do for an outpost in Dustwallow Marsh. She's the Troll behind the wagon and ogres.
Artisan First Aid, Level 225 - 300
Complete two quests, "Alliance Trauma/Horde Trauma," and "Triage!" from either of these NPCs. You don't use your own bandages for these tasks but a special set of Triage Bandages the NPC gives to you. As a reward, you learn Artisan First Aid and your level cap is raised to 300.
- Doctor Gregory Victor. Hammerfall in Arathi Highlands outside of the entrance to the battleground. He is in the large building on the lower side.
- Doctor Gustaf VanHowzen. The ancestral home of Jaina Proudmoore, Theramore is located in Dustwallow Marsh. Find the doctor on the first floor of the Foothold Citadel barracks.
The Powerful Anti-Venom is the highest-level recipe you can learn in Old Azeroth, so if you have the materials and know the recipe, it's a faster way to max out your First Aid skill level.
First Aid In Outland
The range for the First Aid skill in Outland is 300 to 375, so before you start training here make sure your old-world skill is maxed out when it's time to step through the Dark Portal and seek out a trainer.
There are only three in Outland, but at least that makes them and the recipes they sell easy to find. These NPCs don't teach you any new recipes. They only sell you the books with the new recipes and raise your level cap.
- Burko. The resident medic of the Temple of Telhamat, on the western side of Hellfire Peninsula.
- Aresella. Falcon Watch is the Blood Elf Post in Hellfire Peninsula, on the road that leads to Terrokar Forest in the southern part of the zone.
- Mildred Fletcher. The only neutral First Aid Trainer is in Shattrath, she's on the second floor of a partly ruined building in the Lower City. She can train you all the way from level one but she doesn't always have the books you might need for higher levels.
Leveling First Aid With Netherweave
Make Heavy Runecloth bandages to get your level up to 330. You can then buy the Manual: Netherweave Bandage, and grind up to 360.
You can now make the Heavy Neatherweave Bandage, which will comfortably max out your skill to 375.

First Aid Training In Northrend
Before heading to the trainer in Northrend, make sure that your First Aid level is already raised to at least 360. The highest level available in the previous expansion was 375, but the trainers here are happy to help even if you aren't maxed out yet. The professional trainers here can only train characters with a minimum of this skill level.
When you arrive in Northrend, you should have the title Master of First Aid. The next level is Grand Master, and there are several First Aid trainers in Northrend available to help.
Horde
- Sally Tompkins: Find her at Vengeance Landing in Howling Fjord, on the second floor of the building next to the inn.
- Nurse Applewood: She's standing near the Alchemy trainer on the main floor of Warsong Hold in Borean Tundra.
Alliance
- Anchorite Yazmina: After you step from the dock in Valgarde, Howling Fjord, you'll see her by the campfire.
- Brynna Wilson: She's standing by the well in Valiance Keep in Borean Tundra.
Neutral
- Olisarra The Kind: Dalaran has all of the trainers you need, but they might not be accessible until the Magical Kingdom Of Dalaran quest is completed at level 74. In case you get there sooner than later, Olisarra can be found in First to Your Aid. She's also the character who completes one of the Daily Fishing Quests.
The trainers in Northrend will raise the level cap and teach you how to make Frostweave Bandages, but it wasn't until Patch 4.0.1 was introduced in 2011 that they were also able to teach you how to make Heavy Frostweave Bandages. The current version of the game in Classic still seems to be in 2008 mode, which means the recipe is only available from an item, Manual: Heavy Frostweave Bandage.
This is a random drop that falls off mobs throughout Icecrown, Zul'Drak, and Grizzly Hills, provided you have a First Aid skill level of at least 390. There are places with humanoid and undead enemies which also drop a lot of Frostweave Cloth, which is required for the leveling process. At this point, it's bind-on-pickup, too, so not available at the Auction House.
Farming Frostweave
Frostweave Cloth drops off any humanoid mob, and that also includes the undead enemies wandering in the eastern half of the continent. Some parts of Dragonblight and the Southern Coast of Borean Tundra also have undead and humanoid enemies that drop Frostweave. Choose quests in Howling Fjord that involve killing the Vykrul, the dwarves in Whispering Gorge, or lead to the local instance of Utgarde Keep.
Any instance that contains humanoid mobs will see them drop Frostweave, and there are several new ones in Northrend to enjoy. Run dungeons like Drak'Tharon Keep in Zul'Drak to find both Frostweave and the Manual: Heavy Frostweave Bandage.
Grand Mastery First Aid
Once your First Aid skill level cap has been raised to 450, it's time to max that out. There's a distinct advantage if you're also a Tailor because you'll have plenty of Frostweave already stockpiled for your primary profession.
Frostweave Bandages
Make 80 Frostweave Bandages to raise your skill level from 360 to 400. Remember to start farming mobs and dungeons in Zul'Drak for the Manual: Heavy Frostweave Bandage. You can level up to 400 using regular bandages but can start making Heavy ones as early as level 390.
Heavy Frostweave Bandages
Collect 180 pieces of Frostweave Cloth to make 90 Heavy Frostweave Bandages. This will raise your First Aid skill to a maximum of 450.
