12 The Hordes
The Zombies Come, Will You Become Them?
The Hordes mod by smileycorp.- Download Link: The Hordes
When you reach your first night in Minecraft, you'll likely run into zombies pretty early on. They do the usual zombie thing of moaning and moving slowly around or toward you once they've got your scent. They're fairly easy to deal with alone, but they tend to attack in groups which can cause problems. And what if they could do something even worse?
With The Hordes mod by smileycorp, the zombie becomes an even greater threat to be reckoned with. They comb over the lands in the darkest hours to destroy and consume everything that they can. If you or any of your allies are unlucky enough to get bit, you'll suffer from an infection. You've got a choice then: Turn, search for a cure, or call it quits for the safety of others.
11 Apollyon
Alone With Stalking Terror
Apollyon mod by GamerCraftZ.- Download Link: Apollyon
The idea that we might be totally alone in the wide world is a haunting thought even though many of us would seek out such quiet. But Minecraft is already a vast world full of so many things to interact with and other beings to encounter, but it can get quite lonely. This hits particularly hard at night or when you're digging deep into the earth. Still, there are worse things than loneliness.
You can see for yourself by putting in Apollyon by GamerCraftZ and start to feel the isolation. The world is dark and dying leaving you to believe that you're the only one left... for a time. As you explore, you'll start seeing things, noticing something moving, and the question, 'Am I really alone' The creatures will begin moving across the world and you'll wonder if loneliness was as bad as you thought.
10 Red's Anomaly
A Hostile Glitch Has Gotten In
Red's Anomaly mod by RedSkeleton.- Download Link: Red's Anomaly
Of all the stories and entities to come out of the Minecraft community, Herobrine is one of the more notable. The tale says that Herobrine is the creator, Notch's deceased brother who finds his way into the world of Minecraft. It appears as the default Steve skin but with blank eyes. Supposedly, he appears when he wants to disrupt worlds in various ways.
However, Red's Anomaly mod by RedSkeleton transforms the tale into something more disturbing. Taking inspiration from the creepypasta 'Debase', the mod adds a twisted and aggressive being to your world with a single goal: to find and kill you. As soon as you enter, the entity will be waiting to hunt you down, and you'll need to keep moving. Run far enough and you may find safety.
9 Blood Magic
Bloody Arcane Fear
Blood Magic mod by WayOfTime.- Download Link: Blood Magic
If you've ever felt like other magic mods were too lenient on their penalties, then Blood Magic will really make you work for it; everything has a price, and to take full advantage of dark, powerful magicks, you'll be paying with blood.

8 Stalker Creepers
They'll Creep, They'll Stalk
Stalker Creepers mod by atomicstrykergrumpy.- Download Link: Stalker Creepers
Creepers in Minecraft are surprisingly direct; they don't seem like the stereotypical definition of a creeper at all. Instead of dealing with organic, laser-focused and aggressive walking ordinance, Stalker Creepers changes creeper AI to jumpscare you more often.
As you go about your in-game business, creepers will now silently stalk you, making sure to stay close behind you wherever you go. The second you turn around and make eye contact with one, it will immediately begin its detonation process. Shields are certainly a must in this mod.
7 Sculk Horde
Sculking In The Dark
Sculk Horde mod by CRMikeatron.- Download Link: Sculk Horde
The Sculk Horde is an end-game mod that tasks you with awakening, and defeating, an adaptive variety of aggressive life forms that are hell-bent on assimilating all organic life they come across. As time goes on, this existential enemy will only grow stronger.
Each mob infected and assimilated is controlled by a Gravemind, an omnipotent entity that will both tirelessly seek expansion of its influence, and plot against you. Be wary of fighting these enemies on their home turf as well; nature itself can be consumed and transformed into Sculk Ecosystems.
6 The Man From The Fog
He's Waiting For You...
The Man From The Fog mod by M_Productions.- Download Link: The Man From The Fog
If you're more into atmospheric horror, The Man From The Fog mod will add a creepy, vaguely humanoid figure with a large, unsettling mouth to haunt your nighttime adventures. Stay at a safe distance, otherwise this creature will start sprinting at you.
If you have no choice but to fight, you'll hopefully have a shield on hand to protect you from the Fog Man's relentless attacks. Otherwise, your best bet is to start running for your life, but that will only buy you so much time.
5 The John Reborn
The Giant Hungers
The John Reborn mod by AerilonLegacyStudios.- Download Link: The John Reborn
If you feel like adding a terrifyingly gargantuan monster with two bloody mouths, whose 15-block tall stature is comparable to some of the giant, humanoid creatures seen in Attack on Titan, The John Reborn is the mod for you.

PostsKeep in mind, though, that this is only one variant of the white-skinned creatures added in this mod, each with their own strengths and weaknesses. Be on the lookout for hordes of 'Baby Johns' that can easily overwhelm you, or 'Sprinting Johns' in dark, unlit cave systems.
4 Horror Elements
Using The Horrifying Ray
Horror Elements mod by predator97427fr.- Download Link: Horror Elements
If you enjoy creating scary maps of your own, the Horror Elements mod will elevate the atmosphere or experience you're going for by adding in custom blocks, 14 blood splatters, and 45 horror-themed elements; no need to use redstone dust as placeholder blood splats.
From various mob heads on pikes, wooden signs with words written in blood, ragdoll skeletons and corpses, hanging spinal cords, and heaps of other morbid props to play with, it'll be easy to build a modular, and truly horrifying Minecraft experience.
3 Gigeresque
The Aliens Have Arrived
Gigeresque mod by cybercat5555.- Download Link: Gigeresque
If you love the idea of bringing Alien: Isolation to Minecraft, the Gigeresque mod has you covered. Although, if you don't feel like building your own space station, that's fine; you can find all kinds of adapted, Alien subvariants in many of Minecraft's biomes.
If you happen to stumble across a gross, slimy alien egg, do yourself and anyone you're playing with a favor and smash it; you don't want whatever's growing in it to hatch. Oh, and watch out for the facehuggers too, unless you want an extraterrestrial parasite to burst from your chest.
