Henry Cavill Is Working On A Second Warhammer 40k Show

We already knew that Henry Cavill is currently working on, and going to star in, a live-action show set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe. Turns out the actor is also working on a second animated Warhammer project as an executive producer.

There's An Animated Warhammer 40k Series In The Works

The second Warhammer 40k project is an animated series that will build on the Warhammer episode from Amazon's Secret Level, as revealed by Variety. Blur Studios, the creators behind Secret Level, and Warhammer's Games Workshop are all working together with Amazon and Cavill on the project.

The director of Secret Level's Warhammer episode will also be directing this spinoff series, while Band of Brothers' John Orloff will pen the script. The finer details of what else we can expect from the show are yet to be revealed. However, if you're familiar with the Secret Level episode that focused on Warhammer 40k, then you'll know the foundation on which the series is going to build.

Secret Level's Warhammer Episode Was The Show's Highest Rated

The episode centered around a particular sect of the Space Marines known as The Deathwatch. Typically tasked with hunting rogue aliens, the animated Warhammer short follows the group as they clash with a mutant sorcerer. Each episode of Secret Level told a story from a different gaming universe, with Armored Core and Mega Man among the other series to be featured. However, Warhammer's episode remains the highest-rated of the 13 on IMDb with an 8.7/10, almost a full point more than the Unreal Tournament episode, which ranks second.

There was also a Concord episode which wound up airing after the game's servers had already been shut down.

Its popularity might be the reason why Warhammer is the episode from the series that has been selected to get a full spinoff. Amazon is also clearly confident that there's an audience out there for Warhammer adaptations, as that's now two big projects it has in the works, both running in tandem.

Having someone like Cavill on board to lead the way also likely instills confidence in the studio, not only because he's a big star, but because he is a self-confessed Warhammer superfan. Cavill talks about Warhammer every chance he gets, and it sounds like his role on the live-action series is one he's been waiting his entire life to play. If it came down to looking at the popularity of the Secret Level episodes and who Amazon has on-hand to help out, picking Warhammer 40k to get its own animated show based on must have been a no-brainer.
