Wuthering Waves: Should You Choose The Male or Female Protagonist?

Like most open-world action RPGs, Wuthering Waves also lets you pick a male or female Rover as your main character at the start of the game. Each gender offers a distinct visual style, and some players speculate that the gender choice can subtly influence the story and your interactions with the world.

It's not easy to win combat in Wuthering Waves, especially during the mid-game, but these tips will increase your chances quite a lot.

Should You Choose A Male Or Female Rover?
Just like Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail, Wuthering Waves does not let you change your character’s gender once you’ve decided, so it’s safe to assume that whichever gender you select initially is permanent. The only way to change your MC’s gender would be to reroll your playthrough and create a new account.
Fortunately, the choice between a male or female Rover in Wuthering Waves is purely cosmetic. Apart from their appearances, there is no significant difference between the male and female protagonists – so you can simply pick whoever you prefer. For instance, if you identify as female, you may be more inclined to pick the female MC to feel more immersed in the story.
Additionally, your Rover has voice lines during certain cutscenes, with the male and female MCs having distinct voice actors to reflect their characters. So, if you’ve picked a female Rover, all your cutscene dialogues will be voiced by a female voice actor. Some of the attack animations for the male and female Rovers may differ, too.
Besides the main character, you can also control other characters, called Resonators, which can be acquired through the gacha system. Once you pull better characters for your team, you’ll eventually stop playing as the Rover – though they’ll still appear in the cutscenes.
At the end of the day, the choice between the male and female Rover is entirely up to you. They’re functionally identical and have similar skill sets and running speeds. The differences are minor and will not alter the gameplay in any way.
