Video Game Characters Who Have No Right Being As Strong As They Are

When you play a game, you have to suspend your disbelief to a decent degree. Video games are fake, after all, and subject to rules that don't actually govern reality. You forgive certain leaps of logic, people not being fully dynamic. It's a game, it's going to be a bit different from real life.

These anime sibling duos are unmatched.
PostsSometimes though you really have to scratch your head when you see something just a bit too unbelievable. In a world where someone is ostensibly human, they perhaps should not be able to toss people like paper or life boulders multiple times their size. It's funny, but these characters really no right right being quite as strong as they are.
10 The Legend Of Zelda - Link
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Adventure Action Open-World 9.5/10 Released May 12, 2023 Developer(s) Nintendo Platform(s) Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 Powered by Expand CollapseLink has had plenty of different renditions, from miniature child to a full grown young adult. Every game has Link in a slightly different role, though he typically retains the slender form for which he is well-known. A physique that seemingly betrays his incredible strength.
While in early games Link needed the use of a power Bracelet to lift extremely heavy objects, that is a thought of the past by the time of Breath of the Wild. Slim as he is, a boulder can be lifted above his head no problem. Pushing massive stones ten times his body weight? No problem. Who needs the Triforce of Power anyway?
9 Kirby - Kirby
Kirby's Return to Dream Land
Action Platformer Released October 24, 2011 Developer(s) HAL Laboratory Platform(s) Nintendo Wii Powered by Expand CollapseKirby is an adorable little guy, isn't he? Just a little pink cloud that looks so squishy and lovable. Looks can be deceiving, of course, and Kirby is quite powerful despite his diminutive frame. He is also, however, an astral terror that knows no comparison and you really should not cross him.

PostsWhile Kirby may be adorable, he can also assume the form of anything he consumes. Literally anything. Nothing is off-limits. Who would fear a god that Kirby can simply eat and become himself? The only true example of omnipotence in a world with Kirby is Kirby.
8 Resident Evil - Chris
Resident Evil 5
Survival Horror Third-Person Shooter Action-Adventure Released March 5, 2009 Developer(s) Capcom Platform(s) PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Switch, Android, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows Powered by Expand CollapseThe Resident Evil series is packed with viruses and infections, super soldiers and sentient mold. At that point, what could actually be considered unusual? Not much, but resident tough guy Chris Redfield has no problems vanquishing evil with his bare hands.
Yes, Chris is literally just a normal dude. No experimentation, no special weapons. He is just a man with some very sturdy muscles. Muscles that can shatter boulders while being chased by actual superhuman Wesker in the middle of a volcano. Let nothing come between a man and his muscles, even the power of the earth, apparently.
7 Dark Souls - Every Player Character
Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin
Action RPG Released April 2, 2015 Developer(s) FromSoftware Platform(s) PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One Powered by Expand CollapseIn Dark Souls, and many of the Soulsborne games in general, you are put up against insurmountable odds. Vile abominations, unknowable gods, trained killers, you name it. And you, a humble husk bereft of all but the will to keep on living.
None of this is to deny the theme of the games, that perseverance can lead to victory with enough time. That is a noble message, though viewed in a more literal context is very funny. You will see a nude monster wielding a club pummel a god to death, and you must accept that yes, this is normal.
6 Stranger Of Paradise - Jack Garland
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin
Action RPG 4.0/10 Released March 18, 2022 Developer(s) Team Ninja Platform(s) PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S Powered by Expand CollapseNot a single Final Fantasy game is quite like another, all of them transforming dramatically between entries. This is especially true of mainline games, though plenty of the spin-offs have carved out an identity for themselves. Just look at Stranger of Paradise, there's a game no one expected to be quite so excellent.

Jack expresses his feelings with the oh-so-powerful and meme-worthy fist bump, but exactly how many times does he do it in Stranger of Paradise?
PostsEnter Jack Garland, whose sole mission is to kill Chaos. For the most part, Jack is just a man. A man who remembers nothing, knows nothing, but feels the singular urge to kill Chaos. And what a surprisingly noble goal that is in context. Jack is, hilariously and literally, too angry to die. Watch him flip a whole Malboro and explain how a normal man can do that.
5 Yakuza - Kiryu
Yakuza Kiwami 2
Action Adventure Beat 'Em Up Released August 28, 2018 Developer(s) Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio Platform(s) PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC Powered by Expand CollapseThe Yakuza games (or Like A Dragon for the newer entries) have always reveled in their own absurdity. It's the whole point, the juxtaposition of such heart-wrenching storytelling mixed with a world packed with the most lovable but out-there oddballs you've ever witnessed. Yet even the story takes in a few leaps of logic when it wants.
Kiryu tosses humans around like paper. He battles tigers. He survives knives and guns. He is somehow just as nimble in Yakuza 0 as he is in Infinite Wealth. Kiryu hasn't lived a normal life, but no one is that strong. Most people know their limits. Kiryu parries speeding motorcycles in sewer tunnels.
4 Persona 5 - Shido
Persona 5 Royal
JRPG Released March 31, 2020 Developer(s) Atlus, P-Studio Platform(s) Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S Powered by Expand CollapseNow, it's important to recognize that most of what you see in Persona 5 is within the Palace's of each target, which is itself a deep-dive into their own subconscious. What you see is how they view themselves. Yet even with that awareness, how Shido envisions himself is still...a bit much.

From the famed Akihabara to Miura Beach and Ichigaya, there are several Persona 5 locations that fans can visit in the real world.
PostsWhen you come up against Shido, you battle his various metaphorical forms. Fair enough. It's when he battles you one-on-one that you see he is positively ripped, muscles restricted to contain his strength. OK, a bit over-the-top. Then you get to his final phase, and he is literally glowing red with muscles, one-shotting every member of your party. Even as an ideal vision of himself, no one has that much muscle mass.
3 Pokemon - Lots Of Them
Pokémon Sun
RPG Released November 18, 2016 Developer(s) Game Freak Platform(s) Nintendo 3DS Powered by Expand CollapseThere are countless Pokemon. Not literally, there are currently 1025 Pokemon. But that is an absurd amount, enough to introduce more than a few humorous discrepancies. With that many Pokemon, it's only fair to see some Pokemon with strengths that, well, don't seem comparative to their status.
Did you know Rampardos is only two points of Attack weaker than Ultra Necrozma? Or that Electrode is faster than Deoxys? Maybe the fact that Slaking has a higher base stat total than Zacian? Obviously plenty of these Pokemon has their own specialties, but the idea that a Pokemon pretending to be a Pokeball can outrun a hyper efficient alien is quite the thought.
Suitably as the creator of existence, Arceus does have the highest base state total of 720.
2 Smash Bros - Wii Fit Trainer
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Fighting 10.0/10 Released December 7, 2018 Developer(s) Bandai Namco Entertainment Platform(s) Switch Powered by Expand CollapseWhat would you say is the strongest force in existence? It's a difficult question, one that doesn't have a single or simple answer. Smash Bros Ultimate attempts to answer it though by bringing every single fighter in Smash history into one neat package. Turns out, focused breathing is a divine power.
Of the vast selection of characters in Smash Ultimate, one of the most unusual is the Wii Fit Trainer. Yes, it's odd that a character that is basically a silhouette is present. What's more unusual is that specific stretches and typical gym equipment can vanquish just about every form of opposition that exists. Think about that next time you go to the gym.
1 Tomb Raider - Lara Croft
Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered Starring Lara Croft
Action-Adventure Released February 14, 2024 Developer(s) Aspyr, Crystal Dynamics Platform(s) PC, PS5, PS4, Switch, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One Powered by Expand CollapseWhile Lara has managed to rehabilitate her own history quite effectively, she is indeed a rich British woman with a penchant for other cultures' history, in generous terms. Such an attitude usually allows one to ignore any parts of reality, though it doesn't tend to make you superhuman, no matter how athletic you are.
We can forgive Lara her acrobatic abilities, she can afford the finest trainers. Her immense arsenal, of course. Even her endurance in exploration, understandable. However, no one is is taking down an actual dinosaur. A handgun is not killing a tyrannosaurus Rex. Lara makes it look easy.
