Mettaton in Undertale is a Robot without a Soul. Dr. Alphys built him as an entertainment robot; however, he became a human killer. Mettaton is considered a star in the Underground and has a television show that many Monsters watch. Mettaton has three different forms, two of which you will see in every route.

How To Beat Mettaton EX
Throughout Hotlands, you will meet Mettaton multiple times. Your first encounter will be at Alphys' Lab in the Quiz Show. The remaining meetings will be in the Cooking Show, News Segment, and the Musical Play. After all these encounters, you will have to go through the remaining floors on Hotlands until you meet Mettaton EX in his lair.
You will have to fight Mettaton for a few turns until Alphys tells you to turn the switch on his back. Mettaton EX makes his first appearance after you turn the switch on the back of Mettaton. He cares about his fans and wants the ratings to go up.
His encounters in the Neutral and True Pacifist Route are somewhat similar, while in the Genocide Route, he will use a new form.

Mettaton EX is not that challenging compared to other bosses. However, the fight can feel long and frustrating at times. You will be in the Yellow Soul phase during the entire battle. Mettaton's attack deals 6-7 damage per hit. Taking multiple hits in one turn in True Pacifist Mode is not advised.
Mettaton starts with his leg attacks where his legs move side to side. You have to hit them once and go where you can find space. Small Mettatons will fall from the sky, and you can shoot them. Any left alive will throw hearts at you that deal damage.
Mettaton EX also makes an attack where multiple legs come from one area. This is easy to dodge as the whole area warns you to stay away by showing an "!" sign. You will see bombs appear that can be shot at. Mettaton EX makes a Disco Ball attack with blue and white light. You need to hit the Disco Ball every time a white light is near you to avoid taking damage.
After multiple turns, Mettaton EX will bring his heart out and throw projectiles at you. Your job is to avoid them and hit his heart so that his limbs fall off.
Mettaton EX also makes a recording attack where you have to hit bombs coming in a line, and Mettaton then rewinds it. For this, you will have to remember the path you chose, so you do not take damage.
Throughout the fight, you need to check the ratings. Taking damage or consuming food from a popular brand will cause the ratings to increase. The battle ends when the ratings hit 10,000, and Mettaton has lost all of his limbs. If he has not lost his limbs, the fight will end at a 12,000 rating. This will most likely be the outcome in both the Neutral and True Pacifist Route.
However, there is another way you can defeat Mettaton EX on Neutral Route.
This method is not advised as you will kill Mettaton in the process. Also, this way is more difficult as you need to keep damaging Mettaton, making sure that the ratings do not go above 10,000.
To do this, you will need to make sure the only food items you consume are Junk Food so that the ratings decrease. You can also wait between turns, which will make the ratings gradually go down at a slower pace, or write a curse word during the Essay writing to decrease the ratings further.
Remember that if you are playing on the True Pacifist Route, then letting the ratings go above 10,000 is the only option. This will allow the fans to call him and praise him, and he will power down. Mettaton EX does not make an appearance in the Genocide Route but has a new form.
