Jennifer English Drops Out Of Highly Anticipated Action Game
Baldur’s Gate 3, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 star, and general gaming legend Jennifer English has confirmed that she’s no longer starring in the upcoming Tides of Annihilation so that she can "slow down".
Over the past few years, there have been a few notable rising stars when it comes to acting in games. As much as I love Ben Starr, perhaps the biggest example of this is the wonderful Jennifer English, who rose to fame after playing Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3,and then somehow topped that performance with Maelle in Clair Obscur.
Since both of those games ended up winning Game of the Year by a landslide, it’s become a bit of a trend that having English in your game is a very, very good sign. It looked that way for the already promising Tides of Annihilation, but English will no longer star in the game’s lead role and has stepped back to “slow down and reassess” her commitments.
Tides Of Annihilation Will No Longer Star Jennifer English
It Was A “Difficult But Personally Necessary” Decision
Last night, the official Tides of Annihilation Twitter account shared a statement announcing the “sad news” that English will no longer star as the game’s protagonist, Gwen, due to “personal health reasons”. This decision was made last month, and English has moved on to an advisory role for the game while a new actor has been found for the role.
She's currently recording Gwendolyn's English performance for our upcoming gamescom 2026 hands-on demo. Players will hear her performance for the first time in the demo this August, as well as in select official updates shared across our channels during the same period.
After the news broke, English shared a personal statement on her Instagram story, noting that she’s recently needed to “slow down and reassess the commitments” that she’s taken on. English says she realised she needs to “take time to rest” and properly look after her physical and mental health, but that she’s excited for everyone to hear the new interpretation of Gwen.
While it’s a shame not to hear what would have inevitably been another standout performance from English, her health and wellbeing absolutely matter more, especially after such a busy few years. We hope that she’s getting the rest she needs and that the new actor for Gwen sees just as much excitement.
