When it comes to building in games, there's none quite so in-depth as The Sims 4. The game is a huge improvement on previous titles in the series, making it easier than ever to build the perfect home for your Sims. There are endless tools and features to adjust everything you can think of.
However, all games have their limits, even The Sims 4. That's where the TOOL Mod comes in. Once you've learned how to properly use it, building in the game will have even more freedom than before. Elevate your creativity and construction with this essential mod.
What Is The TOOL Mod For The Sims 4?
The TOOL Mod from TwistedMexi stands for 'take objects off lot.' It gives Build and Buy Mode in The Sims 4 an upgrade, allowing you full control over all objects in The Sims 4.
You are able to use the mod to rotate items in different directions, elevate them, move them wherever you want, and more. It allows you to have more creative freedom when building in the game.
How To Download And Install TOOL Mod
CloseYou can download the latest version of the TOOL Mod directly from TwistedMexi's Mods page on their website. Scroll down until you find the TOOL Mod and choose download. This will take you to the latest version on Patreon.
You can also download it directly fromCurseForge. Once on the mod page, just click Download.
On the Patreon page, download the zip file that contains the TOOL Mod. Put it directly in your Sims 4 Mods folder.
The Sims 4 Mods folder can be found under Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > Mods. If you don't have a Mods folder, right-click in The Sims 4 folder and choose to create a new folder, and simply title it Mods.
From there, on PC, you need to right-click on the zip file and hit Extract here. On Mac, you can simply double-click on the zip file to unzip it.
Inside the zip file will be a folder labeled Tmex-TOOL. This is the folder you need in your Mods Folder. Simply click on the folder and drag it directly to the Mods folder. Once you've done this, TOOL will be installed correctly.
How To Use TOOL Mod
The TOOL Mod can be used directly from Live Mode in The Sims 4 by right-clicking on any object and choosing the TOOL menu. From there, you'll get five different options to choose from.
There is the Elevate menu, Move menu, Rotate menu, Scale menu, and Toggle Active Object option.
You can use the TOOL Mod in Build and Buy Mode, but you will need to download TwistedMexi's Better BuildBuy Mod to do this. If you have this mod downloaded, hit Shift + T while in Build and Buy Mode to use the TOOL Mod.
How To Elevate
The Elevate option lets you move objects up and down. While this is similar to using the 9 and 0 keys with the Move Objects cheats on, TOOL is far more in-depth. You can enter a number between -25 and 25 and hit OK to move it up or down.
You can also use decimals to make smaller adjustments for all the TOOL options. You can type it in like this: '0.25' to adjust it slightly along the axis.
Elevate is particularly helpful when putting items on shelves and desks, or to make objects float.
How To Move
The Move option lets you move any object along the X and Y axis. When using this choice, a grid will appear along the lot so you can know the distance for moving an object. You can move the object wherever you want along the grid.
You will need to type in an X and Y value to move the object. For example, type 10, 10, and hit OK to get the item to move. Similar to Elevate, you can choose any value between -25 and 25.
How To Rotate
The Rotate menu allows you to rotate any object 360 degrees along the X, Y, and Z axis. Enter a value between -360 and 360 and hit OK to rotate the item to that degree.
You can also choose Change Axis to switch the axis you are rotating on. A green circle will appear around the object to show you which axis you are rotating on.
You can use the Rotate menu to turn objects upside down, lean painting against the wall, and more.
How To Scale
The Scale menu allows you to change the size of the object selected, to make it bigger or smaller. Enter a value between 0 and 25 and hit OK to change the size.
For Scale, use decimals smaller than one to make the item smaller. Use any number above one to make it larger.
This menu can be used to make toy cars into Sim-sized cars for a parking lot, to scale up a TV to a larger one, and so on.
When it comes to TOOL, using smaller numbers and decimals will be more likely to give you the result you want. Because the TOOL Mod can move items anywhere, if you enter a large value, it can move, scale, or elevate the object much more than you were expecting.
How To Toggle Active Object
The final option allows you to toggle the active object you're using. When an object is toggled for TOOL, it will turn green. Using this option allows you to also click anywhere on the lot to move the toggled object to that spot.
To deselect the toggled object, just click on it once.
TOOL allows for tons of creative freedom in Build and Buy Mode, making for more in-depth lots than you could get even with all cheats turned on.
