Though any Sim can tell jokes in conversation in The Sims 4, the funniest Sims would do well to develop their Comedy skill.
Beginning as simply as telling jokes to other Sims or reading Comedy books, your Sims learn new jokes, hone their craft, and can eventually go on to write their own routines.
And depending on which packs you have installed, that may even make them a star!
Write And Perform Comedy Routines
Before they've progressed very far into the Comedy skill in The Sims 4, your Sim will be able to begin writing and performing comedy routines.
They can even refine the routine beginning at level five of the Comedy skill.
After they've finished writing a routine on a computer, they can then head to any microphone placed in the world and perform their routine.
There are short, medium, and long routines, and your routines will always be of okay, good, or excellent quality when you're finished writing them.
Both of these factors - length and quality - impact the payout of your routine when performing it in public, with hundreds of Simoleons for the best, longest routines on the line.
The game also seems to take into account how many Sims are watching your Sim perform their routine, so choose high-traffic areas like clubs and parks to perform.
Once you're confident enough in the skill, you can buy a mic for your Sim's inventory so they can tell their routines anywhere there's a decent crowd.
Helpful Traits And Aspirations
Since the ideal mood for building the Comedy skill in The Sims 4 is Playful, it's no surprise that Goofball Sims have the best luck building it, as they're prone to feeling naturally Playful throughout the day.
Additionally, since you'll be doing quite a lot of socializing to build the earliest levels of the skill before being able to write routines, Outgoing Sims who enjoy socializing do well with Comedy.
Your Comedy skill isn't intrinsically tied to your Charisma skill, but being charismatic certainly does help, so Confidence is also a good mood to aim for.
And when it comes to aspirations, consider the Joke Star aspiration for the funniest Sims.
Requiring your Sim to master their Comedy skill and make a habit of performing routines, the Hilarious trait that unlocks as a reward guarantees all of this Sim's jokes always land.
The Comedian Career
Though it's not necessary for all your funny Sims to become comedians as a career, it's a really good way to earn money if your Sim has the right stuff.
A branch of the Entertainer career, your funnyman Sims can step on stage each night for a stable paycheck between their own routines.
If you're playing with the Get Famous expansion pack installed, Comedians can earn Fame for performing their routines, which they'll need to do as daily tasks anyway.
It's not tough to become a famous comedian when pursuing the Comedian career with Get Famous installed, either - a lot of your skill-building tasks add Fame innately!
