Even kids in The Sims 4 should mind their Ps and Qs. If your child Sim is struggling to chew with their mouth closed, keep their room clean, or talk politely, it might be time to improve their Manners. With The Sims 4: Parenthood, players are encouraged to keep an eye on the five character values of their child Sims: Responsibility, Empathy, Conflict Resolution, Manners, and Emotional Control.

What Are Manners In The Sims 4?
Whether your child Sim has good or bad manners is determined by how they behave in the household. Child Sims with good manners participate in family chores, say "please" and "thank you", and set the table. Generally, they are helpful and cooperative children.
Children with bad manners don't mind passing gas or being rude to others, much to the dismay of their mortified parents. The way you command the child Sim to behave along with how their parents react to their behavior can influence your child Sim's sense of Manners.
Traits Resulting From Manners
If child Sims are never taught to have good Manners, they may grow up to be nasty and rude. Thats right — if your Sim's behavior is bad enough in childhood, they may gain a negative trait when they age up to adulthood. The good news is, children who are very well-behaved may gain a positive trait upon reaching adulthood.
Your Sim will only receive these traits if they are very good or very bad with Manners, so keep an eye on your Sim's personality panel if you're shooting for either one. Child Sims can gain the following traits in response to how they have displayed Manners in childhood:
Good Manners
Bad Manners
Sims with the Good Manners trait never use Grossactions around other Sims. They are granted unique social interactions, such as Offer Gratitude when hosted by another Sim, and also make friends more quickly.
Sims with the Bad Manners trait use profanity and engage in Grossbehavior frequently. They often fail to pick up around the house or do chores like the dishes.
Their poor behavior reflects negatively in some of their socialinteractions.
How To Improve Manners In Your Child Sim
Luckily, Manners is perhaps the easiest character value to build and maintain in The Sims 4. Some character values rely heavily on external conditions or interactions with other Sims, but the Manners value can be built through everyday actions as well as without interference from other Sims.
To improve your child Sim's Manners, command them to do the following:
- Give compliments to others
- Wash dishes
- Be taught how to say "please" and "thank you" by parents
- Set the table
- Introduce self to others in a friendly way
