What Is The Musical Genius Aspiration In The Sims 4?
The Musical Genius aspiration is one of six creativity aspirations that your Sim can pursue.
As an aspiring Musical Genius, your Sim will be prompted to master instruments, write songs, and listen to music. In total, this aspiration will award your Sim with 4,925 Satisfaction Points to spend in the Rewards Store.
Musical Genius naturally pairs well with the Entertainer career, allowing you to make progress in both simultaneously.
Watch as your Sim unlocks new genres, composes beautiful symphonies, and gets down to some good tunes. If you want to explore the musical wonders that The Sims 4 has to offer, this is the aspiration for you.
How To Complete The Musical Genius Aspiration
Becoming a Musical Genius requires dedication, talent, and a good bit of time. Improving musical skills is a simple yet time-consuming task, requiring Sims to tickle the ivories and pluck at guitar strings for hours at a time.
Sims with these traits will find it easier to complete the Musical Genius aspiration:
- Creative: Creative Sims become Inspired more easily, which will allow your Sim to progress in their musical skills more quickly. Inspired Sims will also gain promotions in the Entertainer career faster.
- Music Lover: Sims with the Music Lover trait gain extra Happiness from playing instruments and can become Inspired by performing the "Listen Deeply" command with a stereo. They also gain more Fun from listening to music, which can help significantly if your Sim is Tense from work or other activities.
- Cheerful: Cheerful Sims experience less negative moodlets, making it easier to build instrument skills without a Tense feelings getting in your way.
Fulfilling Whims is a great way to rack up Satisfaction Points and buy rewards traits that can boost your skill building speed, such as Morning Sim, Night Owl, and Savant.

Level One: Tone Deaf
Requirements
Practice Music For Six Hours (75 Satisfaction Points)
Listen To Music For Two Hours (50 Satisfaction Points)
The first milestone in the Musical Genius aspiration is very easy to surpass. You'll need to buy at least two items from Build Mode to fulfill both tasks: an instrument and a stereo.
The Kaboom Box is the cheapest base game stereo at just §150, while the Cafe Wall Speaker from The Sims 4: Get Together Expansion Pack costs a bit less at §120.
Before you buy an instrument for your Sim to learn, keep in mind that each instrument your Sim plays counts as a different skill (for example: Piano skill, Guitar skill, etc.), and only one instrument is necessary for the Musical Genius aspiration.
As far as instruments go, your Sim can learn piano, guitar, or violin. If you have the Vampires expansion pack, your Sim can also learn the pipe organ.
Many versions of these instruments can be found in Build Mode, ranging in style, cost, and quality.
The most affordable base game instruments includethe Tickle My Ivories Grand Piano (§1,415), the Stringvarius Violin (§425), and the Pied Piper Acoustic Guitar (§400).
Handy Sims can craft their own guitars and violins at a reduced price with the Woodworking Table.
Level Two: Fine-Tuned
Requirements
Achieve Level Four In Any Instrument (300 Satisfaction Points)
Play Any Instrument For One Hour While Inspired (350 Satisfaction Points)
Each instrument will offer unique interactive options for your Sims, but building your Sim's musical skills is a similar process, regardless of which instrument your Sim is learning. Any time your Sim plays their instrument, they'll be gaining musical skill.
Selecting the Great Acoustics lot trait for your Sim's home offers a 50 percent boost to your Sim's instrument skill building.
Beyond physically practicing an instrument, your Sim can also read skill books associated with your instrument. You can purchase skill books by clicking on a bookcase and selecting "Purchase Books."
Your Sim can become Inspired by taking a thoughtful shower, using the molding clay, browsing art on the computer, or plucking/plunking/bowing for inspiration on an instrument.
Level Three: Harmonious
Requirements
Achieve Level Six In Any Instrument (500 Satisfaction Points)
Write Four Songs (400 Satisfaction Points)
Earn §500 From Licensed Songs (500 Satisfaction Points)
The third milestone of the Musical Genius aspiration is more lengthy than the previous steps.
Sims can begin to write songs at level eight of any instrument skill by selecting the "Write Song" action on your Sim's instrument. It takes about eight hours for your Sim to complete a song, sometimes requiring multiple writing sessions.
Once your Sim's song is finished, you can license it by clicking on your Sim's mailbox. Songs can only be licensed after your Sim achieves level nine in their instrument.
You can only license one song per week, and royalty payments are spread out over the course of several days.
Level Four: Musical Genius
Requirements
Reach Level 10 In Any Instrument (1000 Satisfaction Points)
Spend 75 Hours Playing Instruments (1000 Satisfaction Points)
Mentor Another Sim In Music For Three Hours (750 Satisfaction Points)
The biggest challenge of the Musical Genius aspiration's fourth step is mentoring another Sim. To perform this action, your Sim will have to witness another Sim playing the instrument that they have leveled.
Your Sim won't be able to mentor another Sim in a skill until they have leveled it themselves.
Instead of waiting around for a townie to pick up a guitar, try commanding another Sim in your household to practice the instrument and then switch back to your musician Sim. As their housemate is playing, they will be able to mentor them.
Musical Genius Aspiration Reward Trait: Piper
When your Sim completes the Musical Genius aspiration, they will be rewarded with an exclusive trait. The Piper trait gives your Sim the ability to play unique songs that influence others.
Your Sim may need to play a song more than once for it to work. When used correctly, these songs can make certain situations easier, harder, or just plain weirder.
There are four songs that your Sim unlocks with the Piper reward trait:

Carol of Cleaning
Gives Sims an Energized buff and motivates them to clean the house, which they will continue to do until the house is clean, or they are no longer energetic. This song is useful for those with Lazy Sims who have trouble cleaning.
Song of Sophistication
Makes all Sims nearby swap their everyday outfit for elegant formal wear. While this song doesn't have many practical applications, it is fun to play with!
Ditty of Drowsiness
Lulls all nearby Sims to sleep. The Ditty of Drowsiness is particularly helpful for getting Sims to burn off inconvenient moodlets.
Étude of Egress
Forces all Sims who do not belong to your household to leave the lot. Use this song when you have unwanted visitors.
