The world of The Sims 4 can be extremely diverse. All DLC brings a unique spin, breathing new life into the game in exciting ways with every new release. One of the most essential expansion packs every Sim player will be quick to add to their library is the Seasons pack. After all, it's about a lot more than just funky weather.

Different seasons mean new experiences with special moodlets, new non-playable friends, new events, and a new career, of course. If you are a nature lover, a green thumb, or some other kind of flora enthusiast, then you will find your new dream job in the gardening career, one of the crowning jewels of this expansion pack. Sorry, snowpals.
How To Join The Gardener Career
Gardening is an activity the Sims can learn and become skilled at, much like logic, handiness, or fitness. However, you can also make a career out of it for your Sim.
It's as easy as finding the business option on their cellphone, using the career panel, or using a computer to find a job. The Gardener job will be on the career list, and you'll be starting off as a dirt digger, making §20 an hour.
Joining a career through the career panel only works when the Sim is unemployed. If you're going for a career change, you need to use one of the other methods.
What You Need To Get Started
Preparation for a career often involves buying a few items or making sure your lot is otherwise equipped to support all the activities your Sim will need to do so they can climb the career ladder.
This is where the Gardener career stands out as being simpler than most, as you will only need some empty space in your lot where you can plant seeds, and at least one Garden Planter Box or Garden Pot, which will be a big help to make buying seeds a quicker process.
You can find these items in Build Mode, under the Outdoor Activities section. You can also find seeds there if you don't want to use gardening items.
What Is Different About The Gardener Career?
The Gardener Career is one of the few careers where Sims can choose between going to work and working from home. Every time your Sim is one hour away from their shift you will get a pop-up above the Sim cellphone with a few clickable icons instead of the usual notification that shows up in the top right corner.
The three options you can choose from are Go to Work, Work From Home, and Take PTO (which stands for paid time off in this world too).
If you don't choose one option after a short wait time the game will automatically assume your Sim will go to work.

All Career Levels And How To Get Promoted
Though there are some slight differences between the Gardener career and most other careers, the general structure of levels and promotions remains the same. There are ten levels your Sim will need to get through to reach the top of the Gardener career.
And, as usual, the career splits into two different branches as you advance, so you will have a choice between Botanist and Floral Designer. There is something for everyone here.

Daily Tasks And Work From Home Assignments
Because the Gardener career can be performed both away and at home, the tasks you need to complete to keep your Sim's performance bar up vary slightly. The task you get assigned will depend on the choice you pick between going to work or staying home on any given workday.
Thankfully, the tasks are fairly simple, and you will be completing them either way if you're actively working on leveling up your Sim's gardening skill. No extra effort needed.
Daily Tasks
There is essentially only one daily task you will need to complete during the main stretch of the Gardener career before choosing a branch. Harvest Harvestables is a task that will only need to be performed once to achieve completion, so it only takes a few minutes at most. All you need to do is collect the produce from any plant and you're done.
Harvest Harvestables will continue being the only daily task throughout the duration of the Botanist branch as well. It is only when you choose the Floral Designer branch that you will see a change, as your Sim will now be tasked with Arranging Flowers instead.
Work From Home Assignments
The work-from-home dynamic introduces the option to do work-from-home assignments, which are a replacement for daily tasks that come with careers. These assignments are more diverse than daily tasks as well, as they vary from day to day.
Sims who choose to work from home in the Gardener career will need to complete one task a day. There are no more requirements that count towards a workday when choosing the work-from-home option.
However, the task has to be completed during the Sims' regular work hours regardless. Sims might get assigned one of the following:
- Buy Garden Seeds
- Research Gardening (on the computer)
- Read a Gardening Skill Book
- Harvest a Plant
- Gift a Crop
- Harvest Flowers (specifically flowers!)
- Make Flower Arrangement
- Be Eaten by a Cowplant
- Drink Cowplant Essence
The option to sell the plants directly, either individually or in bulk, will also help to complete harvest harvestables tasks but not harvest plants or flowers tasks.
The Role Of Seasons In Gardening
Seasons mean there will be weather changes all around. However, Gardeners know seasons also mean you won't always be able to get every plant to bloom.
The Seasons expansion introduced the mechanic in which produce goes in and out of season, exactly like in real life. Think Stardew Valley farming, except your plants don't really die.
They just shrink back into a little mound of dirt until it's time for them to bloom again.
Make sure to have a diverse garden with plants that are in season at different times of the year. Otherwise, building skills might get tricky. And yes, there are winter plants you can grow!
Gardener Career Rewards And Bonuses
A work well done means promotions, and promotions mean rewards; both in the form of bonuses and special furniture items. The Gardener career has some unique benefits Sims can enjoy.
Each level in the career will reward a Sim with different things, ranging from gardening tools to one of the most exotic plants in the game.
