While there are tons of collections to find while playing The Sims 4, there's none quite so ubiquitous as the crystals, fossils, and metals. These different collectibles can be found nearly everywhere, and it's highly unlikely that you'll be able to play the game without picking up at least a few. Even if you aren't looking for them.

If you're looking to get all of them, though, you'll need to be able to put in the time and effort. While some you'll come across easily, others you're going to work hard for. But, as long as you know how your Sim's house will soon be filled with shiny crystals and metals.

How To Get Crystals, Metals, And Fossils

There's only one way to get the crystals, fossils, and metals, and that's by digging up rocks found in the world. These rocks can be found in any world, outside on the ground.

Once you find a rock that contains a collectible, you can choose to Dig it and your Sim will receive one of four items: a Fossil Rock, a crystal, a metal, or a Treasure Map. Besides the Treasure Map, these are all useful for the collections.

Each rock you find in the different worlds will have a different design on them. From the design on the rock, you can often tell which will be in the rock. This is not guaranteed, though.

Fossils

Fossils will come from rocks that have a trilobite on them. When you dig it up, you will get a pop-up stating that your Sim found a limestone that's been placed in their inventory.

To find out what fossil you got from the limestone, open up your Sim's inventory, find the Fossil Rock, and choose to extract the fossil. This will extract the contents, so you can know which fossil your Sim has found.

Once you've extracted the fossil, you'll get another pop-up telling you which fossil your Sim has found.

Metals And Crystals

Close

Metals and crystals are slightly easier than fossils. Once you choose to Dig the rock, you'll immediately get the metal or crystal in your Sim's inventory.

Rocks that are more likely to contain metal have flecks of gold on them, while rocks that are more likely to contain crystals have small clear crystals growing out of them. Like fossils, you are not guaranteed to get metals or crystals from these, but there is a higher chance.

Once you've dug up the rock, your Sim can look directly in their inventory to sell the metals and crystals or place them in the world.
