Nintendo Shares Early Tears Of The Kingdom Development Footage

Nintendo has shared a first look at early development footage of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which mostly focuses on an early version of vehicle building.
We're just a few short days (although they certainly feel long) away from the long-awaited launch of Tears of the Kingdom and, like me, I'm sure you're counting down the hours until you can return to Hyrule and reunite with Link, Zelda, and a truly open-world. To help pass the time and keep you excited, Nintendo has shared a brief look at a development build beta of Tears of the Kingdom that has quite a few differences from the final game.

As highlighted by Redditor Emotional-Ad-1188 on the Tears of the Kingdom subreddit, the footage was shared in a developer Q&A over on the official Tears of the Kingdom website. The Q&A features several key developers, such as Tears of the Kingdom's producer Eiji Aonuma and its director Hidemaro Fujibayashi, talking through how the game came to be while showing off a variety of early gameplay clips.
All three of the clips highlighted on the Reddit page focus on one of the big new additions to Tears of the Kingdom - the ability to create vehicles by fusing together parts found around the world. The first and second clips show Link standing on a cart that's been made out of wheels and a large piece of metal, while the final clip instead focuses on Link riding on a very rickety-looking boat made out of turbines and a plank of wood.
We've seen quite a lot of footage of these vehicles in action, but the interesting part comes from all of the things that can be spotted that make it clear that this is an early development build of the game. The most curious of these is the fact that this build appears to be running on the Wii U build of Breath of the Wild, as the d-pad in the top left of the screen is the one from the Wii U version and not the Switch.
It's also pretty clear from the footage that this build is using the Breath of the Wild map, not the one from Tears of the Kingdom. There are none of the unique new structures or areas from TotK shown in the clips and the Sheikah Towers look like they did in that game rather than how they've been changed up in the sequel. We can also see that Square Bombs are still in this build, despite seemingly not appearing in Tears of the Kingdom.
Some other notable stuff include the development notes that can be spotted in the distance of the second clip, and the fact that the Sheikah tech holding the vehicles together seems to just be ripped straight from Breath of the Wild. None of this is too surprising considering this is clearly prototyping to figure out the mechanics of Tears of the Kingdom, but it's still an interesting look into the game's development.
