In episode three, Ellie and Dina find themselves entangled in a brutal conflict between two factions: the Washington Liberation Front (WLF) and the Seraphites. This season is not coming slow when it comes to new lore drops, so let's look at who exactly the WLF are.

Who Are The Washington Liberation Force?

The Washington Liberation Front, commonly referred to as the WLF or "Wolves," is a militarized faction that emerged in the aftermath of the Cordyceps outbreak. Originally formed by civilians and defecting FEDRA officers disillusioned with the oppressive regime, the WLF successfully overthrew FEDRA's control in Seattle.

Under the leadership of Isaac Dixon, a former FEDRA sergeant, the group established its headquarters in the repurposed SoundView Stadium, transforming it into a fortified base complete with training facilities, medical bays, and agricultural zones.

The WLF operates with a strict military hierarchy and is known for being highly armed and ready to fight. As of episode four, they are in a violent conflict with the Seraphites, a religious cult that shuns modern technology and embraces a more primitive lifestyle. This ongoing war has led to significant casualties on both sides and has further destabilized the region.

Is Abby A Part Of The Washington Liberation Force?

Abby Anderson is a prominent member of the WLF. Following the disbandment of the Fireflies, Abby and her group, known as the Salt Lake crew, joined the WLF to continue their fight against oppressive regimes. Abby's combat skills and dedication quickly earned her a reputation as one of the WLF's best soldiers.

Abby’s journey within the WLF is complex. While she initially aligns with the group's objectives, her personal quest for vengeance leads her to question the WLF's ideology. This internal conflict becomes a central theme in her character development, and going forward, we’ll see more of Abby’s character as she is hunted by Ellie.

Abby's involvement with the WLF also brings her into direct conflict with Ellie, as after killing Joel, Ellie just wants to end her life. The best clue she had was the WLF’s logo, which led Ellie and Dina to Seattle. Though we don’t know much beyond what has currently been shown about WLF from the show, we have snippets of lore from here and there, and currently, they are at odds with the Seraphites more than anyone.
