The Last Of Us Part 2: No Return - Every Enemy Type, Ranked

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered's No Return mode is a great way to just enjoy the title's gameplay without the emotional toll of the narrative weighing down on you. You still go up against all the enemies you fight in the campaign, and they still react to pain and injury as realistically as before. But this time, you do it for points in a roguelike structure.

Which guns should you look out for?
PostsThe enemies you face off against have slight variations, so this list ranks which ones are the most entertaining and easiest to fight against. Knowing each enemy type's attributes will determine which path you choose during a particular run since you might want to avoid certain enemy types altogether.
When selecting an encounter, you can see what enemy type you will face off against. You can sometimes choose between two different encounters. Not only does this help dodge certain level types and enemies, but you can also use this to think about how you will use your resources in between encounters.
5 Dogs
You Never Feel Good About Hurting Them
CloseDogs are not a faction but a specific type of enemy that shows up during some encounters. Some of the human factions use them to hunt you down. They can track you by your scent, so you need to keep moving to prevent detection. One dog has to die in the story mode, but you can largely avoid killing them during combat.
In No Return, they still make realistic dog sounds when being attacked, which may be uncomfortable for some gamers. Even virtual animal violence can be upsetting in a game as realistic as The Last of Us Part 2. It's unpleasant but also a testament to the game's attention to detail.
4 WLF
Washington Liberation Front
CloseThese guys carry serious firepower, and it makes sense why they would. In the story, they are easily the most organized and militant faction you go up against. Regular enemies carry around simple pistols, but they also walk around with Bolt-Action Rifles and Pump Shotguns.

Which level type is the best in The Last of Us Part 2 No Return?
PostsYou don't want to be close up with two or more of these enemies because their guns will put you away quickly. The advantage is that they are not heavily armored, perhaps signaling in the story how disposable they are to the WLF leader Isaac Dixon. In No Return, it is a welcome relief to know they are vulnerable against all your bullets.
3 Rattlers
The Group Ellie Fights In Santa Barbara
CloseThe Rattlers only play a small part in the game's story mode. Once Ellie goes to Santa Barbara, she fights off against these raiders, the same people who kidnapped Lev and Abby and strung them up on poles to die from the elements. They are brutal, ruthless, and seemingly have no conscience.
They focus more on melee weapons than firearms, but many of their soldiers are heavily armored, including protective headgear. Stealth is the best way to take one out without having to deal with the body armor and helmets. They are also the faction that came up with the ingeniously evil idea of chaining clickers as a security mechanism, but you can turn the tables and feed them to the restrained monsters.
One of the bosses is the Rattler Captain. He has no special bells and whistles as a boss and feels more like a normal enemy with a larger health bar. He is, however, surrounded by many rattlers.
2 Seraphites
The Cult From Which Abby And Lev Fled
CloseSeraphites live in the woods in their commune, far away from the big cities. You go to their home in the story, but ultimately, they remain one of the more mysterious factions in the campaign. Because of where they live and their religious practices, Seraphites are equipped with bows and pragmatic melee weapons like sickles and large hammers.
Their distinctive clothing makes it impossible to mistake them for one of the WLF or a Rattler. Don't think they aren't a threat because of their primitive weaponry, however. They are accurate with the bow, and the larger enemies with huge hammers take a lot of firepower to take down. It is best to reserve some shotgun ammo for the heavier Seraphites.
1 Infected
They Can't Shoot, But They Are Still A Threat
CloseIt wouldn't be The Last of Us without infected. Some say humans are the real monsters. While that may be true, monsters are definitely real monsters, too. The regular infected act like zombies from Zak Snyder's Dawn of the Dead or 28 Days Later. They run fast and attack ferociously. Deeper into the infection, they become clickers. These creatures are completely blind but have superior hearing and move fluidly through the environment using echolocation.
The creepiest thing about them is the clicking sound they make. Then, there are bloaters, big monsters who dispel a harmful cloud of gas when they are close to you. Even after bloaters die, they still leave off a cloud, so be sure to wait a minute before going to see if the enemy dropped any loot.
Three boss fights in No Return feature a steady stream of infected coming into the arena to ruin your day. These are the Arcade Bloater, Theatre Infestation, and the Garage Bloater. Even after defeating the boss, you still have to defeat all the other enemies before the encounter and run are complete.
