While two heavies and one medium player are still the most used composition in these instances, many light players dominate some of these lobbies using the cloaking device as their primary specialization. Let's learn how you can mimic some of these playstyles and wreak havoc in your casual matches.

The Cloaking Device In A Nutshell

While there are light players who can exploit the evasive dash or the grappling hook, the cloaking device is still the most used specialization by top players in ranked lobbies, and it's easy to see why; while the duration of the camouflage is pretty low, the positions you can control with this gadget cannot be accessed by any other class in the game, at least not as quickly.

Press the specialization button once to activate it, and your character will become camouflaged immediately. The cloaking device has an activation cost, and after that, a visual timer will slowly deplete the specialization logo so you can know how much time you have left.

Cloaked players will be revealed if they take any damage or perform any animations like shooting, reviving a teammate, throwing a grenade, or using any other gadget. You can sprint while using the cloaking device without being revealed, though.

The cloaking device also features a short interruption grace period right after you activate it. This is designed to prevent accidental reveals by surrounding hazards like fire or gas; if you get damaged exactly when you press the button, you won't be revealed.

Although the cloaking device is the best light specialization, your contestant won't become completely invisible after activating it. Players with good awareness will be able to spot you at short range even while camouflaged. The device also plays a distinctive sound to every nearby player, letting them know someone's lurking nearby.

Builds That Synergize With The Cloaking Device

The Close Quarters All-Rounder

This class is meant for inexperienced players to succeed with a light build easily; more experienced players will make small changes to make it much better. As your primary, choose the M11 machine pistol. For the first gadget, go for the gas grenade. For the second, take flashbangs. As your third, go with frag grenades.

This little class revolves around chasing fleeing enemies after one of your friendlies just dealt damage to them and throwing frag or gas grenades from cover while you patiently wait for any of them to be damaged. Flashbangs will be helpful when enemies are hunkering and you want to push them fast.

The Invisibility Meta Build

This class is similar to the first one, but it's meant to expand your possibilities and fight from longer distances without sacrificing too much short-range power. For the primary, take the XP-54 smg. As your first gadget, choose frag grenades. For the second, take the stun gun. For the last gadget, use the glitch grenade.

This class lets you counter the double-heavy medium composition you often see in ranked play by using glitch grenades right when they're trying to stall. Try to open every gunfight with a stun play coming out of cloak after glitching their screens and have fun wiping them. Frag grenades will let you deal damage if they're stalling behind cover.

The Shotgun Build

The shotgun build revolves around dealing damage from enemies' back angles and taking advantage of chaos; it's not as easy to play as it seems, but it can deal lots of damage in short bursts. Grab the SH1900 as your primary. For the first gadget, use glitch grenades. For the second, go with a stun gun. For the third, take the vanishing bomb.

This build works like the first one but with a more specialized approach due to the use of glitch grenades. Try to use the stun gun as often as possible and focus on the softer targets first, as they're the ones you can kill with two shots. The vanishing bomb will serve you to escape bad spots or to start fights with your team right before pushing a dangerous corner with enemies around.

The Tactical Rifleman

This class is extremely similar to the meta build but focuses on a more tactical approach to fights. For the primary, grab the LH1 battle rifle. For the first gadget, go with frag grenades. For the second one, use the breaching charge. For the third, use glitch grenades.

With this build, instead of throwing grenades while waiting for your opportunity to push damaged enemies, you'll be taking shots at them from the same distance a medium class would. Use the breaching charge to open holes and allow yourself to camp cashouts from the upper floors. Glitch grenades will turn off shields that are facing you from a distance.

How To Take Advantage Of The Cloaking Device

There are two ways to be a nuisance for enemy squads while using the cloaking device. The first one revolves around finishing off isolated enemies after one of your friendlies just dealt damage to them. This is easy to do, even for inexperienced players.

Choose a friendly player to follow around and cover; you should be close to them but not on top of them. When fighting begins, find a spot with good line of sight to the enemies and decent cover. It would be much better if they didn't even realize you're there.

To find better shooting spots, run from cover to cover instead of running in the open as you would with a heavy class. Hide your movements with cloaked runs to disorient enemies while they're focused on your friends.

Wait until one of the enemies gets their HP bar chunked; they'll probably try to find somewhere to hide. If they're playing with an organized squad, their teammates may even cover their way out of the fight. This is your moment to change the outcome.

Now, chase the damaged enemy using the cloaking device while sprinting; you'll be faster than anyone. If they're also playing light, you'll catch up to them when they stop to hide. Think about your way out before taking your shots; after killing them, activate your cloaking device again and move out of danger to camp the remaining enemy players of that squad.

This tactic should be repeatable in the same fight if your positioning is good. Rinse and repeat until you wipe out the enemy squad.

The second tactic revolves around dealing damage to any person in the opposite squad while changing positions, exploiting the cloaking device to generate chaos instead of waiting for it. This can be done by finding good angles, shooting before your friendlies start fighting, and avoiding 1v1s at all costs while you deal damage.

If you're not confident with 1v1s while playing light, this is the best way to generate chaos. Find the enemy squad and lurk a bit around them. When you find a good angle, shoot at them and use all your ammo, or wait until they start shooting back.

Move behind cover and activate the cloaking device to change angles rapidly. Find the same or any other enemy of that same squad and mag-dump them again. Rinse and repeat. Little by little, they'll start to crumble and your mates will eventually push them when they're all low HP

It's essential that you don't take any damage while trying to generate chaos; it's just about dealing damage, moving out, and repeating. Very clean plays could end in triple kills.

If you do this right, enemies will start thinking about your presence when the fight begins. It's also important to use grenades if you see enemies clumped trying to revive or heal each other. If you're good at one-clipping opponents, this is an extremely oppressive playstyle.
