The Enigmatic Expiration in a Harmonious Island Commune is a very interesting start to the second DLC of The Case of the Golden Idol. Involving a mysterious island of people who live in relative harmony with a tragic past, we get to see some glimpses into the history of the titular golden idol before it makes its grand debut in the main game's narrative.

Thinking Mode: Identities

There are seven people to work out the identities of here. This panel is best worked out at the same time as the council panel.

  • Some of these people will be very obvious if you've played through The Spider of Lanka beforehand.
  • The others can all be worked out through dialogues and the council vote results.
  • The council's dialogue paired with the voting bowls can help narrow down who voted for what.
  • Take note of who is male and who is female.

Solution

The identities of the characters featured in this case are laid out in the table below, with each placement corresponding to their placement in the panel.

Lavu Mata

Vyrlis Momgo

Tissa Gamini

Zubiri Kerra

Jayan Ji

Kula Stirna

Kruplu Zarno

Thinking Mode: Council Roles

This panel will require that you make some informed guesses. This panel is best worked out at the same time as the identity panel

  • The council members' dialogue will give you significant clues as to who's who.
  • The other people's dialogues will give you hints as to people's roles - they may not say who has what role explicitly, but they may talk about men, women, children, and agriculture quite obviously.
  • Everyone here has two names, but their names are used interchangeably.
  • There are five votes - are there any clues as to who was involved in the vote but isn't on the council? Someone talking about the vote may be important.
  • The letters on the voting rocks will do a lot of the work for you - you just need to tinker with names until they fall in the right places.

Solution

  • Guardian of Males: Vyrlis Momgo
  • Guardian of Females: Kula Stirna
  • Guardian of Agriculture: Kruplu Zarno
  • Guardian of Children: Lavu Mata
  • Joined the tiebreaker vote: Sutul Vaito

Thinking Mode: Ordering The Tiles

There are a few things to keep in mind when working out the proper order of the tiles here.

  • The tiles that resemble each other are likely to be part of the same sequence, but not always.
  • The tiles were sourced from the children. Was anything else provided by the children that someone may have written down to remember?
  • There are three discrete phrases that make up this story.
  • Some of these images resemble other aspects of this case - this may be a helpful clue for you.

Solution

The twelve parts of the story are laid out in the table below as they should be arranged in-game.

Brute

Banishes

Lemurian

Ancestors

Dweller

Emerges

From

Tower

Community

Discovers

Sentinel

Protection

Thinking Mode: Series Of Events

Once you've figured the other panels out and taken a close look at every scene, you can work out the general series of events.

  • An important aspect to figure out is what the vote was about. It was decided that things shouldn't be tinkered with - what sort of tradition could this be referring to?
  • Someone died, and it seems to be at least semi-voluntary. With a community so small, what sort of person is a likely candidate?
  • The events depicted can be witnessed beginning with an incantation. Where did you learn that word?
  • Understanding the tiles and the story they tell is very important here.
  • The golden idol is in play here - you could head back to the main game to work out which symbols are being used, but the effects are pretty obvious from the events occurring before you.

Solution

Sutul Vaito went to the tower and spoke the incantation, because according to the local tradition, whenever the dweller endangers the community, the sentinel goes and banishes the dweller to the tower until the next time.

After the incantation was spoken, the golden idol was activated to reduce lifespan and Sutul Vaito died.
