Having forced out everything Bloody Baron knows about Ciri and her whereabouts to Geralt, the witcher is done with the Baron. The next part of The Witcher 3's story can begin, and you are free to enter the city of Novigrad or the distant shores of Skellige. However, the Baron is not done with Geralt.

The Baron, too, is ready to press on and resolve his own problems. With Geralt's help, the warlord has finally located his wife and daughter. While the latter seems to have her affairs in order, the former is anything but safe. You can follow the Baron on his Return to Crookback Bog to bring his story to an end.

Meeting At Downwarren

This quest will automatically begin after you complete Family Matters. The Baron will ask Geralt for help saving his wife at the end of the quest, heading to Downwarren to search for Anna.

Downwarren may be heavily affected by your decision in The Whispering Hillock. If you had released the spirit, the town would have been destroyed.

You can visit the town whenever you are ready. The Baron will wait for Geralt before doing anything and can be found talking to the Ealdorman close to the fast travel point. Speak to the Baron and tell him that you are ready to begin the rescue mission.

Navigating The Bog

Crookback Bog is just as dangerous as the first time you visited. If anything, it's worse. The party will be attacked by two waves of monsters. While the Baron and his men are capable fighters, Geralt is far better suited to slaying monsters. You will need to do most of the killing.

The vast majority of monsters in the Bog are necrophages. Try to keep your blade coated in Necrophage Oil and use Igni to set them alight. If you have the health to spare, Black Blood potions will damage necrophage attackers if they hit you.

This section will end when the party reaches the orphanage where they encounter Tamara and Witch Hunters from the Church of the Eternal Fire. Their reaction to Geralt's arrival will change depending on Geralt's interactions with Tamara.

The orphanage is swarming with more monsters. Defeat all of them to continue the quest with a conversation with Tamara, Graden, and the Baron. They will search the orphanage after introductions are made and find Anna. Her state is determined by your choice in The Whispering Hillock.

The Final Wave

The Crones are not done causing misery. They will send a final wave at the rescue party, ringing the orphanage with black smoke and sending in monsters. You will need to fend off drowners and water hags at the start.

After enough monsters have been slain, the Crones send a final foe, a fiend. This monster will be hard to miss, thanks to its large size and dangerous attacks.

Charge

The fiend will charge in a straight line, sending anyone in its path flying.

Try to roll instead of dodge out of the way. Its massive antlers have a surprisingly wide reach.

Melee Attacks

The fiend will swipe at opponents in front of it with its forelimbs or lunge with its antlers. These hits may kill Geralt outright at lower levels and will send him flying.

These attacks are slow and telegraphed. You can dodge out of the way with ease. A good tempo would be to dodge every two Quick Attacks, circling around the fiend.

Hypnotic Gaze

The fiend's third eye can hypnotize people who look directly at it. When under this effect, your screen will darken with only the glowing eye visible.

Things get difficult if Geralt gets hypnotized. Most of the screen will be obscured, with only the glowing, orange eye visible. The fiend will likely charge at you. You will need to time your escape using the eye.

You can prevent the fiend from using this by throwing a Samum bomb at any time, preventing future use. You can cancel it by hitting it with an offensive Sign.

You will be in the clear once the field is killed, though the quest is far from over. Anna is still in a bad state. How the rest of the quest proceeds will depend heavily on your previous decisions.

Gone Mad

Anna will be a gibbering mess if you killed the spirit.

The quest will conclude here, without any further involvement needed.

Turned Into A Water Hag

The Crones will have transformed Anna into a water hag. While she is not hostile, it is still a bad situation.

You will need to find Johnny and ask for his help. We have covered the possible endings in our guide for The Bloody Baron quest.

Geralt will reflect on the quest once it's over. Your experience point and money rewards will automatically collect themselves once it's over.
