This quest can be difficult. It will have Geralt investigate an abandoned town, dealing with monsters along the way. By the end of it, he will have to face an old foe in numbers. We will guide you with both halves of the quest, from investigating the scene of the crime to killing the people responsible.

How To Start Rose On A Red Field

You start this quest in Evil's Soft First Touches, shortly after Olgierd gives Geralt his first two tasks. As the witcher leaves the estate, he is stopped by one of Olgierd's lackeys, Adela. She promises Geralt a reward for tracking down the people who killed her friend.

The investigation begins in the town of Bowdon, which has new, ghoulish residents. In the usual fashion, slaughter the ghouls before investigating the town.

Searching The Town

Geralt will pick up a scent, leading him to a shack that was used to create the narcotic fisstech. There are three items to investigate inside.

Fisstech Equipment

These large, alchemical contraptions are visible from the door.

Warning Letter

A letter warning the resident of an impending attack is on the table by the bed.

Footprints

There are a set of footprints on the bed leading out of the house, through the window.

Leave the shack and go to the window to pick up a set of footprints. They will lead you to Kluivert's body.

After investigating the corpse, Geralt will need to find a set of footprints at the fence. These footprints lead back into Bowdon where they transition to hoof prints that bring you to the culprit's camp. There are at least five Fallen Knights for you to kill.

You will find Ofieri diagrams inside the house that will start the treasure hunt, From Ofier's Distant Shores, which lets you craft a full set of Ofieri armor.

Search a nearby wagon for a letter that will bring you to the Fallen Knight's headquarters a short distance away.

Entering The Fallen Knight Hideout

There are two Fallen Knights outside the mine. A cutscene will play when you approach, where they will attempt to stop Geralt from entering the building. You will have three options to deal with them.

Fight Your Way In

Geralt can provoke both men into fighting him, killing them both and allowing him to enter freely.

The key to the mine is a rusty key on one of their bodies.

Use Axii

If you have Delusion at level 2, you can convince both men to let you through.

Bribe Them

You can pay the men 1,000 crowns to let you in. It's a hefty sum for just two lives.

If you have buyer's remorse, you can kill them after paying them to get your money back.

You have a large group of enemies to deal with later on. It may be easiest to simply fight your way in to save time and to warm yourself up.

Geralt will confront the head of the operation in the cave, Ulrich. The man had turned from serving Redania as a knight to selling drugs to stay alive. How you talk to him does not matter. Regardless of whether or not Geralt mocks him, he will recognize Geralt's role in the first game that led to the downfall of his order, and will try to kill the witcher.

You will have to deal with a large group of Fallen Knights as well as Ulrich for this battle. You will be fighting in a large, open arena with a raised platform on one side.

The arena makes it likely that you would be surrounded by enemies. It will be incredibly difficult to defend yourself should this happen. Try to move along the perimeter of the arena to stop your enemies from surrounding you.

If you are well-equipped with bombs, you take advantage of the lack of obstructions to hit multiple enemies with bombs, weakening them and thinning out their numbers. Similarly, the Whirl ability will let you attack multiple enemies at once even if you are surrounded.

If this fight is hard to manage, you can lure the enemies into the poison gas at the entrance to the room. Once inside, you can either use Golden Oriole to outlast the Fallen Knights or ignite the gas to damage them.

Once Ulrich is dead, you can meet Adela in Oxenfurt where you can tell her everything or simply demand payment. Either way, you will receive 200 crowns and end the quest.
