Typically, classes in a video game are distinct; you start the game, pick a class, and begin to play. In Terraria, this works a bit differently. There are classes that you can play as, but it's very easy to switch or tweak your chosen class. With the wide range of weapons available, you can personalize your fighting style.

In this list, we are going to go over some of the most fun classes to play. It's important to keep in mind that this list itself is just for fun! If you don't like any of the classes mentioned, that's totally fine. These are just great options if you are looking to shake up your Terrarian experience.

There are four official Terraria classes; mage, summoner, melee, and ranged. The classes listed here are a bit more specific, involving different playstyles within these four groups.

7 Flinx Summoner

The Flinx Summoner is exactly what it sounds like; a Summoner who commands Flinx. This is a small and round creature that bounces between enemies in a comical way. As a Flinx Summoner, you can command Flinx to do your bidding.

The Flinx Staff is pretty accessible at the start of the game, making it a good starting class. Remember, you can change your class whenever you want, as it's just based off of the weapons you use.

The Flinx Staff is required to summon a Flinx, but with the Flinx Fur Coat, you can increase the number of minions you have. When you have both of these items, you will have two Flinx that bounce around the screen, killing enemies so you don't have to.

6 Melee Yoyo-User

The yoyo is an often underutilized weapon in Terraria. While the weapon does have a bit of range, it's not nearly enough to be on par with guns and bows. The yoyo itself is tethered to you, but you can still deal some devastating attacks.

Hel-Fire is a Hardmode yoyo that burns any enemy it touches. We suggest pairing a yoyo with the Yoyo Bag (allows you to hold two yoyos) or Counterweights (creates a second yoyo projectile that attacks the enemy). What's more fun than taking on bosses with multiple yoyos in hand?

5 Bee Master

After defeating the Queen Bee, the world of bee combat will open to you. There are several bee-themed weapons in the game, which you can find below.

Bow

Bee Gun

In addition to these weapons, you can also get yourself the Bee Armor, which provides a great minion boost. Overall, you can play melee or ranged as a Bee Master; the choice is yours.

4 Natural Mage

In general, the Mage class is one of the most popular. There is a wide variety of weapons to choose from, giving you infinite possibilities. One such possibility revolves around greenery. Wands such as the Flower of Fire or Nettle Burst can turn you into a druid-like Mage, capable of attacking with nature.

If you participate in the Christmas event called Frost Moon, you will have the chance to defeat Everscream, who has a small chance to drop the Raxorpine. This is a wand that resembles a tree branch, and can shoot high-velocity pine needles. Interestingly, this wand has some of the highest DPS in the game, making it well worth it!

3 Whip Champion

Whips function similarly to yoyos; the weapon itself is tethered to you. In total, there are nine whips that you can find in Terraria, with six of them only being available in Hardmode. Still, with limited options, whips are an incredibly fun weapon to use.

All whips synergize well with minions. When hitting enemies, your summoned minions will attack the last one that was hit.

With the Hardmode whip Kaleidoscope (which drops from the Empress of LIght), you can boost your minion's chance of landing a critical hit. Additionally, this is the strongest whip in the game, and attacks with it give off a nice rainbow effect.

2 Captain America

Yes, you read that right. You can cosplay as Captain America in Terraria with the Sergeant United Shield. Though this is called a shield, it functions like a boomerang. The weapon can be thrown, and will target enemies while bouncing between them.

As a hybrid shield-boomerang, you will be able to use this as a defensive item as well. While this isn't the most complex 'class' to play as, it's great for those going to a Marvel-themed run. If you want to embrace the Falcon (Sam Wilson), you can even add a pair of wings to the mix.

1 Gunslinger

Guns are ranged weapons, requiring ammo to be used. There is a wide variety of guns available in the game, with some of them functioning more as launchers. With the number of guns to choose from, you can really customize your Gunslinger experience.

Some guns, such as the Piranha Gun, don't require any ammo. This unique gun shoots three mechanical Piranhas that deal damage while attached to the enemy. With the Celebration Mk2, you can even launch a barrage of fireworks at enemies.
