The Temperate maps in Terra Nil are the first you'll need to complete on your journey to rejuvenate the world. These maps are relatively straightforward, but you'll need to be smart about how you use your irrigators and create habitats for each of the six individual animals if you want to get 100% completion.

This guide covers how to create each environment, how to create the habitats for the animals, and how to successfully recycle your map and complete the level.

Getting Started - River Valley

The best way to get started is to place down your Turbines. Space them out across the map, so you get ideal coverage when its comes to placing down your Toxin Scrubbers and Irrigators. Like we mention in our beginner tips guide, you can get maximum coverage by using the Irrigator pieces like a Tetris puzzle. You can see what we mean below.

By filling in areas with Turbines before you start placing down Toxin Scrubbers and Irrigators, you can guarantee you get the most out of each time you place down an irrigator. Use the channels of water by placing down the pumps, too. This will also spread greenery.

Hitting The Requirements For Each Biome

To complete the second stage of the Temperate map, you'll need to have the appropriate amount of Fynbos, Forest, and Wetlands.

  • Fynbos is created by placing a Beehive on a tree surrounded by grassland. You will have three or four trees already on your map.
  • Or, you can create more Forest by using the Solar Amplifier to create burn. You can burn Fynbos to generate more ash, therefore more trees.
  • Wetlands are created by placing down a Hydroponium on an Irrigator placed near water.

Creating The Habitats

  • Deer - You should scan wide open areas of grass. Deer will spawn here.
  • Frogs - Frogs will only spawn where there is a combination of Fynbos and Wetlands. Use the Solar Amplifier to burn terrain and plant trees if needed to create Fynbos next to Wetlands.
  • Bears - Bears need a hill, Forest, and a beehive. Again, you can use the Solar Amplifier to burn areas to create forests.
  • Goose - This can be hard to spawn if your map didn't generate with a lake, thankfully you only need to do three animals at a time. You can always return to another map generation to see if you can easily place down geese on a lake.
  • Beavers - This requires a large portion of river and some trees. The small water channels will not provide enough water for the beavers, so they need to be placed on the large river in the middle of the map.
  • Wolves - Wolves need to be placed in a Forest near to where some Deer have spawned.

How To Easily Recycle The Map

The simplest way we've found to recycle the map is like this:

  • Place down the recycling solos to clear out a group of builds.
  • Place down the drone dock to collect the silos.
  • Monorails can only be placed on rocks, although you won't need to deal with this until later in the game.
  • You can create water channels using the excavator that will help your drone move to previously inaccessible areas.

How To Complete The Abandoned Quarry Challenge Map

The Abandoned Quarry map is unlocked after you've completed each of the four different regions. It's essentially a more challenging version of the standard Temperate map.

  • You will need a lot of flat ground near water to get the required amount of Wetlands to complete the map. Achieve this by using the seismic detonator on the central area of the map and then placing Irrigators on the low ground.
  • You'll need to use the Cloud Seeder to produce lots of humidity to reach at least the rain stage, which will help fill in the rest of the terrain. Again, you can use the seismic detonator to create larger areas of water.
  • Once you've done that, it's time to use the Dehumidifier to burn the ground, then use the Solar Amplifier to set a fire on the burned ground. This is the only way to get trees on the Abandoned Quarry map. See how it works in the image below.
  • You can use a range of recycling tools to clear the map, from flying drones to water drones. Be warned that once you upgrade your drone to fly, you won't be able to use its boat function. Clear out buildings near water first, then use the monorail and rock hopper to create areas where you can fly to and recycle buildings.
