Summary

  • Splitgate 2's open beta is now live, and players have noticed a curious phenomenon.
  • They seem to be randomly farting when they crouch, and a dev has stepped in to explain.
  • They confirmed there's a one percent chance of farting when you crouch, but the odds might be nerfed in the future.

Splitgate 2's open beta went live over the weekend, giving people their first opportunity to play the sequel to the first-person shooter that went viral a few years ago for being labeled a Halo x Portal hybrid. If you've played the beta and kept feeling like you were hearing fart sounds, don't worry, you're not imagining things.

There are farts in Splitgate 2, and hey, why shouldn't there be? Passing wind is an entirely natural bodily function, and there are certain things you can do that might lead to it happening more often, like crouching. That's what brings them on in Splitgate 2 as one of the sequel's devs has responded to a player who discovered crouching can cause farting.

SorryCantAim shared their discovery on Twitter, posting a clip where their character lets rip when they spam crouch. Gryphon, an associate producer on Splitgate 2, has weighed in to let players know it's a little more refined than that. You're not going to hear the Splitgate fart by just crouching over and over again. There are odds at play.

Splitgate 2 Players Who Thought They Were Randomly Farting All Weekend Can Rest Easy

Turns Out They Were In The Game

"I think we did like one in 100 chance of it happening, so you may hear it at any point in the game if you crouch once," Gryphon revealed. That means roughly every 100 crouches, a player is going to fart. Since there are 24 players in each match, it's probably safe to assume that multiple farts are going on in any given match. Listen closely, a poorly-timed fart could win you the match, or lose you it.

The Splitgate 2 beta peaked at more than 12,000 players over the weekend according to SteamDB, which means there will have been hundreds, probably thousands of farts pumped out into the game's atmosphere during its first few days.

1047 Games will naturally be making changes to Splitgate 2 following feedback from its first open beta, and the frequency with which players fart might be one of the areas that gets changed. Gryphon added that they might change the odds of a player breaking wind to one in 200 "if it happens too often". Make the most of it now before you potentially fart half as often.

If you didn't realise the Splitgate 2 open beta had begun, or you were on the fence about giving it a try until hearing the sequel has farts in it, it's not too late to jump in. If all goes to plan, the beta will now remain open until the full game launches later this year. It's free to play and the full version will be too when it's released.
