2022 was a massive year for Sonic and it closed with rumors that the blue blur would be getting a selection of new Lego sets in 2023. Those rumors have now been confirmed to be accurate as the world's fastest hedgehog will be getting no fewer than four sets, all launching this August. Among them will be dedicated sets for Tails and Amy, two Sonic characters who were not immortalized in Lego via the last official Sonic set which included the lead character and Dr. Robotnik.

The first look at all four sets dropping this August comes courtesy of Jay's Brick Blog. There you'll find photos of all the Sonic sets coming this summer, headlined by the Sonic Sphere Speed Challenge. The set includes Sonic, just in case you don't own the original set, a launcher, and even a lounger so the hedgehog can kick back and relax once he's done speeding around. Plus, the first-ever Lego Flicky to sit alongside him.

The most exciting additions to Sonic's Lego world are the new characters. Tails enters the fray and he'll be bringing his workshop along with him, not to mention the Tornado Plane first introduced in Sonic 2 and last seen in Frontiers. An iconic vehicle featured prominently throughout Sonic history which you can now build yourself using Lego. The Tails set also includes its own Sonic, and I think I spy a Chaos Emerald on the counter.

Amy is getting her own set too. An Animal Rescue Island and the first set that doesn't come with a Sonic, but it will have both Tails and Amy, not to mention another Flicky. The fourth and final set is the coup de grace, though. Consisting of more than 800 pieces, the Green Hill Zone Loop Challenge effectively lets you build an entire Sonic level out of Lego, complete with a launcher to send Sonic flying and a Dr. Robotnik boss battle at the end of it. It's also the most expensive of the four, retailing at £94.99. The previous three all cost less than half that individually.

The sets don't appear to have been designed with the original one in mind. Surprising as it has pegs on each side implying that new sets could be tacked on as and when they launched. That may still be the plan with future sets, but the four coming this August still look great and aren't that pricey when compared to certain other Lego sets revealed recently. It also continues what was promised to be another big year for Sonic with more Frontiers DLC to come, an Origins expansion, and the ongoing production of Paramount's Knuckles show.
