Although Sand Land does feature a lot of on-foot gameplay where you control Beelzebub and beat up a variety of humans, robots, creatures, and animals, one of its core elements is its focus on vehicles.

Sand Land's producer, Keishu Minami, talks about adapting and expanding the beloved one-shot manga from Akira Toriyama.
PostsThere are a wide variety of vehicles to unlock in Sand Land, but the very first one that you're going to get your hands on (not counting Rao's car, which is very short-lived) is, of course, the iconic tank that is the focus of the original manga. It's a little easier to unlock than the rest of the vehicles in the game, but there are still a few steps you'll need to take in order to get it.
How To Unlock The Tank
For the first hour of Sand Land, you'll mostly be driving Rao's car before it ends up getting destroyed while being chased by a Geji Dragon. From there, you'll have to walk your way to the nearest town, Talbo, which will initiate a stealth sequence where you play as Thief (dressed up as Santa, to boot) and gather up food and water.
While there, Thief will overhear that the town is transporting tank parts to a nearby military base, Napps Base. After this, a marker will pop up on your map leading to the base, starting the mission "A Tank? Sign Me Up!". Head over there to start a story mission where Beelzebub sneaks around the base to reach the tank and drive it. This sequence is pretty easy, but remember to hold down the sneak button (L2 on PlayStation and LT on Xbox) to see if enemies will detect you.
Keep following the path the game recommends and you'll eventually reach the tank and trigger a cutscene where the party meets Ann for the first time. After a quick cutscene, Beelzebub will jump in the tank and you'll get to control it for the first time. You'll drive the tank out of the base and towards safety, which will also act as a tutorial for how the combat works.
You'll also get a tutorial earlier in the game that teaches you how the tank works, but this is the first proper time you'll have your hands on one.
After a quick rest at a campsite where you also learn how to swap out parts on the Tank, a story mission will trigger where the party must make their way to Spino. After defeating the water tank boss (who is so incredibly easy I won't even say to be careful), keep driving to Spino. You've technically got access to the tank now, but you'll need to progress a little further to be able to use it whenever you want.
Once you reach Spino, Ann will take the tank into the garage, and you'll have to explore the area for a little bit. Once you've done that, you'll be tasked with unlocking a Jump-bot, which is the next vehicle you'll be aiming for. Then, talk to the cat-like creature in Spino and you'll unlock capsules that are used as containers for the vehicles and that let you use them whenever you want.
Eagle-eyed Toriyama fans will likely notice that these capsules are a refernece to the same ones that are used in Dragon Ball and which were invented by the Capsule Corporation.
As soon as you leave Spino after unlocking these, you'll be able to press the right button on the D-Pad to bring up a wheel containing your vehicles. From that point on, you've now fully unlocked the tank and can do whatever you want to it, including customising it in the garage to your liking.
