Midway through Sand Land, you'll be able to cross the sunken ruins to the west and reach the neighboring nation of Forest Land. However, the ruins are guarded by the Kraken, a fearsome squidlike monster that was worshipped in ancient times. The Kraken's flooded lair severely restricts your use of vehicles, so you'll have to make do and change your tactics accordingly.

PostsAs bosses go, the Kraken is fairly standard, but you'll need to make effective use of your Hovercar if you want to have a shot at bringing it down. Here's how to do it.
Kraken Boss Fight Attack Pattern
The Kraken usually sticks to the outer edges of the arena, relying on its tentacle and projectile attacks. If you see it winding up a tentacle, watch its position. If the tentacle moves to the side, use the Hovercar's Boost to levitate above the swinging appendage. If the tentacle goes straight up in the air, move as far to the left or right as possible so that it doesn't hit you when it comes down. Note that the Hovercar can't use Boost to get extra speed like other vehicles; you're limited to its slow but maneuverable driving.
Remember to manually disengage the Boost after the tentacle passes under you. If you don't, the Hovercar will just keep levitating until it runs out of Nitro, leaving you vulnerable to the next tentacle attack!
Occasionally, the Kraken will submerge under the water. You can't see it, much less hit it, while it's down there. In most cases, a swarm of tentacles will appear; use the Hovercar's machine gun to clear them out, or move onto one of the islands and switch to a vehicle like the Hopper that has a secondary weapon with more ammo. Just don't go back into the water unless you switch back to the Hovercar first!
If the Kraken submerges and your companions tell you it's about to attack, get onto dry land to avoid taking a big hit from below.

The Hovercar's secondary weapon is the more consistent choice for fighting this boss; it's easy to handle thanks to the vehicle's maneuverability. The rockets, on the other hand, deal more damage per shot, assuming they hit. Swap between the two, emptying one weapon while the other reloads so you never stop firing. Aim for the beast's face whenever it's above water!
If you took the time to upgrade the Hovercar in Spino (which you should), a Quick Reload EX Chip for the machine gun is a great choice. You can also consider modifying the rocket launchers with Incendiary Ammo to get a little more damage out of them.
Can You Use Vehicles Besides The Hovercar?
If you're on one of the stone islands in the boss lair, you can switch to a different vehicle, though in most cases this isn't recommended. Only Jump-Bots and Hoppers can avoid the Kraken's tentacles, but there isn't enough room to maneuver safely. Using a land vehicle will cause you to take a lot of damage.
If the fight is getting desperate and you're out of repair kits, though, you can turn it around with an unorthodox strategy; get onto land and switch to the Tank, equipped with an Outrigger and your most powerful Primary Weapon. Once engaged, the Outrigger greatly enhances the firing speed of the Tank's manin cannon at the cost of rendering the vehicle immobile. You can't really go anywhere with the Tank during this fight anyway, so unleash a barrage of fire to finish off the Kraken before it smashes the Tank to bits.
If you decide to try this strategy, use an Armor Kit and Firepower Kit to make the most of your last stand.
