From the traditional protagonist, Tsunanori Mido, to more unconventional ones like the Dismal King, Siugnas, there are plenty of stories to experience and choices to make that will shape the fate of the worlds. We've ranked all six protagonists based on their personalities, stories, and likability.

6 Tsunanori Mido

As the default protagonist, Tsunanori Mido offers a traditional approach to RPGs. He aims to succeed where others failed and harness the power of several spirits to save his homeworld, Miyako City. His laid back and chill personality makes him aloof sometimes, but he's a good guy overall.

The trouble is that his attitude towards the other worlds prevents him from making a connection with them. He's just passing through and doesn't get invested in the worlds he encounters. The exception is the role he takes in Grelon, but considering he isn't the only protagonist to pass through there, it's not saying much.

There's nothing wrong with playing as Tsunanori Mido, and it's worth playing through his story at least once, but when compared to the diverse cast of protagonists, he falls flat.

5 Ameya Aisling

Playing as Ameya Aisling is recommended for beginners, and for good reason. Her narrative focuses on completing her witchterms and finding lost cats. It's simple and fun, introducing you to the gameplay mechanics of the game while giving you a taste of what's to come.

Ameya is sweet and can be and takes her role very seriously. She's also not afraid to bend the rules a bit when necessary, making her quite resourceful. You'll meet a variety of recruitable characters, which makes your retinue one of the most diverse groups to have with a little bit of everything.

You'll get to meet characters from other protagonists' stories, offering a sample of their personalities for you to enjoy before committing to another playthrough. However, despite her versatility and lighthearted magic abilities.

4 Bonnie Blair

A new recruit on the police force and a former marine, Bonnie Blair is on the case to catch the culprit of an assassination attempt. Her quick wit and positive attitude make her a pleasure to be around. Her upbeat nature pairs well with Formina, the other half of the fantasy buddy-cop duo.

Despite her bright personality, she's seen her fair share of troubles. Bonnie wears her heart on her sleeve and fights fire with fire. She's a formidable ally to have on your team, and you'll get to work closely with another protagonist to solve the mystery behind the president, the assailant, and your reassignment.

3 Diva No. 5

With one of SaGa Emerald Beyond's most intricate designs, Diva No.5 is the most eye-catching protagonist. Her rich accent and melodic voice make her unforgettable, and her narrative is a deep and soulful exploration of what makes life worth living.

After her curiosity leads her to a forbidden piece of music, she is stripped of her role as a songstress and left to fend for herself. Diva swaps to a smaller, simplified body after losing her singing abilities and she joins a secret society to explore other worlds.

The cast of characters that join her fight are distinctly unique, including a cheery tank-like character named Wednesday. Diva's new friendships shape the course of her growth in her new life.

2 Formina Franklyn

Teaming up with Bonnie, the renowned sharpshooter Formina Franklyn undertakes a mission to pursue the man that tried to execute the president. Upon learning that the president is likely a traitor, Formina must work to find the truth and solve the puzzle before her using a mysterious triangle piece.

Formina is calm and collected, using reason to rationalize and deduce the best course of action. While soft on the surface, she's as firm as steel. Her near-perfect aim makes her a valuable ally in combat, and she works tirelessly to complete her work.

Playing as Formina feels like playing as a detective with a sharp eye, and you can't go wrong with a murder mystery.

1 Siugnas

By far, Siugnas is the most unconventional protagonist, and that's part of what makes him so good. He's less of a hero and more of a villain as the Dismal King. Having been removed from his thrown and cast into another world, he's in for a rude awakening.

From his over-the-top design to his narrative flair, the immortal vampire strives to regain his powers and return to his kingdom. There's nothing better than a story of revenge, especially when ancient beings who have all the time in the world get involved.
