Sunset Overdrive Developer Insomniac Responds To Calls For A PS5 Port

Summary
- Insomniac Games has responded to a call for a PS5 port of Sunset Overdrive, though it has explained it's too busy.
- Marvel's Wolverine is currently taking precedent at the studio, while we know other projects are also in the works.
Sunset Overdrive developer Insomniac Games has responded to recent calls for a PS5 port, explaining that the studio is currently too busy with other projects.
Sunset Overdrive is a bit of a weird title, especially in regard to its exclusivity. It was released back in 2014 for the Xbox One, well before developer Insomniac Games was bought by Sony and became a PlayStation studio, and Xbox never snatched up the rights to the property before that buyout. That means Sony now owns the rights to a title that is currently exclusive to Xbox consoles.

Hurry up and port this gem to PlayStation consoles.
PostsIt's never looked likely that PlayStation would revive the IP going forward, having Insomniac work on Spider-Man and Ratchet & Clank instead, but that hasn't stopped fans from calling for a remaster or PS5 port of Sunset Overdrive ever since Sony acquired the rights. Insomniac has flirted with the idea of a sequel in the past, and a trademark update in 2021 raised hopes somewhat, but we've barely heard anything about the series since.
Insomniac Games Responds To Requests For A Sunset Overdrive PS5 Port
That was until today, as Insomniac responded to a call for a PS5 port of Sunset Overdrive following a tweet it made showing off some of the game's sillier respawn animations. However, it's not great news if you were hoping for the return of Fizzco and the mutant hordes, as Insomniac has explained it's currently "busy with Marvel's Wolverine," thoroughly shutting down the prospect for now.
We know that Insomniac is a studio that likes to have a lot of projects in the works at once, and Marvel's Wolverine, the next Marvel's Spider-Man, and DLC for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 all likely take precedent over a PS5 port of a title that likely hasn't aged all that well. Sunset Overdrive also wasn't included in the massive leak the studio suffered last year, which revealed all of its planned projects up to 2032.
At the very least, this tweet is now proof that Insomniac - and potentially Sony - knows there's demand for a PS5 port out there. If it's just a straight port rather than a remaster, it probably wouldn't take too much effort on Insomniac's part, though it's likely down to whether Sony itself sees any merit in a rerelease. Hopefully it does, as it would be nice for Sunset Overdrive to be more readily accessible, though you'll have to settle for PC and Xbox for now.
