Finishing the Community Center’s assorted bundles and restoring it to its former glory is considered the norm in Stardew Valley, but what if you’re more about cash than sentiment? What if you’d rather pay for the five major Pelican Town upgrades instead of collecting and donating for them?

Good news – head on over to JojaMart, buy a membership, and you’ll be able to pay Joja to turn that building into a Joja warehouse instead! The Joja route in Stardew Valley sees your farmer focused more on money-making than ever before, since buying upgrades is how you’ll help improve Pelican Town.

The Joja Route Locks You Out Of Doing The Community Center Bundles

Remember in the introductory cutscene you saw when you first got started in Stardew Valley, of your farmer before they were a farmer, stuck in a dead-end cubicle job they hated? They were working for the Joja Corporation, a mega-corp big-box store that's threatening mom and pop shops all over the world with its size.

Though there's no technical right or wrong way to play Stardew Valley, most players agree that restoring the Community Center by finishing the assorted bundles and helping the Junimos is the canon story for the game. However, if you're not into keeping a collection of items or finding those rarer bundle items, there is another - albeit different - path.

You may have noticed it in the achievements list, but you can opt to allow JojaMart to take over the Community Center as a warehouse for their products instead of going through the work of restoring the old building yourself.

When you arrive in Pelican Town, Mayor Lewis has just told Morris, the manager of the local JojaMart, that Joja can turn the run-down building that once was the Pelican Town Community Center into storage provided he gets one more membership sign-up at JojaMart, to indicate that this is really what everyone wants.

Because of this (and how quickly big companies like JojaMart move), obtaining a JojaMart membership locks you into completing the Joja route in Stardew Valley. There's no option to double-back on your choice and change your mind - once you've signed up for your membership, construction begins overnight on the new Joja Warehouse.

However, in talking to the residents of Pelican Town after making this call, it seems it's not quite what anyone seems to want at all. Speak to your neighbors, Pierre most of all, and see what they have to say about the choice - if you've never played the JojaMart route before, there's plenty of dialogue you haven't seen.

After making this decision, instead of completing the Community Center bundles, you'll instead be buying your Pelican Town upgrades that are normally unlocked in the Community Center, all with your own gold. These are available for staggered prices at JojaMart, and it's the only way you can unlock these features.

How To Complete The Joja Route

To get started on the Joja Route in Stardew Valley, you'll first need to watch the Community Center cutscene with Mayor Lewis, where he explains what the building used to be and explains its sentiment to you. Head into Pelican Town from the bus stop screen after 8AM from Spring 5 onward.

You're free to head inside and check things out, and interact with the plaque that triggers the Meet the Wizard quest, but don't concern yourself too much with the Junimos. The day after unlocking the Community Center, head over to JojaMart. Speak to Morris, the guy at the desk to the right, and he'll offer you a Joja Membership for 5,000g.

Though Joja normally sells crop seeds for a markup compared to Pierre's, having a Joja membership lowers their in-store prices to match Pierre's, so you don't have to continuously overpay for the same items the whole game.

You'lll need to buy the Joja membership to begin the Joja route. Cough up the gold, and he'll send word to Mayor Lewis. The following morning, the Community Center building will be changed to reflect your decision.

You can only buy one upgrade per day, so even if you have money for more than one, choose which is most urgent and wait another day to pay for your second choice.

Unlike playing the Community Center route, you don't need to bring anything to the warehouse itself. To buy upgrades, you'll instead need to buy them from JojaMart by speaking to Morris the same way you did to buy your membership. After giving the money to Morris, the upgrade will be completed overnight, same as always.

All Joja Warehouse Payments In Stardew Valley

Upgrade Name

Cost

Function

Minecarts

15,000g

Restores the town's minecart system. These run between the bus stop, the Mines, and town, and act as fast travel points.

Panning

20,000g

Destroys the boulder next to the Mine entrance, permitting the flow of ores in the river in Pelican Town (and a demonstration from Willy on how to pan).

Bridge

25,000g

Repairs the bridge near the Mines that grants access to the Quarry, filled with ore nodes, rocks, Mystic Stones, and even another mini-dungeon.

Greenhouse

35,000g

Rebuilds the run-down greenhouse on your farm, allowing you to grow crops year-round regardless of season.

Bus

40,000g

Repairs the bus to the Calico Desert every day, allowing you access to Skull Cavern, the Desert Trader, Oasis, and more.

Like with the bundles, there's no right or wrong order in which to unlock the Joja upgrades. Choose whatever is most important for your playthrough - we started by saving for the Greenhouse because we hadn't leveled up enough in Combat to dare venturing out to Skull Cavern in the desert just yet and Winter was coming.

In total, you'll need 135,000g to buy every upgrade and complete the Joja route in Stardew Valley.

What Happens When You Finish The Joja Warehouse?

The day after you purchase the last Joja route upgrade from Morris, walking into town (provided it's not raining or the day of a festival) will trigger a different cutscene than normal, celebrating the full completion of the fully restored warehouse.

You'll see a short celebration with the folks from JojaMart, during which Morris gives a speech praising the restorative work JojaMart has done around Pelican Town. The building isn't too much different inside, but the exterior has been changed dramatically. Additionally, you won't often see town residents there.

However, finishing the Joja warehouse functions in-game like completing the Community Center, albeit a little different given story restrictions. You'll still get a letter from Willy inviting you to talk about heading out to Ginger Island for the first time, where you'll have access to a new farm, a new ten-floor volcano dungeon, and more.

How To Unlock The Movie Theater After Finishing The Joja Route

You'll also still be able to build the movie theater after finishing the Joja warehouse, but it's a little different than you may be used to after the Community Center route.

via Hayashi Leroi/Steam

After finishing the warehouse entirely, head back over to JojaMart in town and talk to Morris again. Now, he'll want to renovate the warehouse a second time, this time into the movie theater.

Despite the size of a company like JojaMart, they need you to invest the money to make the transformation. Doing so means you'll need to pay 500,000g, still to Morris just like your warehouse upgrades.

Once unlocked, instead of the movie theater being put into the former JojaMart building (considering it's still functional in this playthrough), the movie theater replaces the Joja warehouse instead upon completion, giving use to that corporate eyesore in town.
